  1. I captured a home movie in Studio 9 as AVI and converted it to MPEG2 but Studio 9 would not make the VOB files. It looks like it almost gets there and then says it can't write the file. I tried Vegas Video 4 and DVD Architect and it was the same. It said error occurred writing the file. I also tried TMPGEnc DVD Author and it stopped trying to make the vob files. One of the programs made the VOB files but no IfO file.
I don't know what's going on or where to start.
    Anyone help?

  2. I guess one of your AVI files might have an error or something causing the problem. I would load the original avi file into VirtualDub and see if they would play ok, then set the program to "Direct Stream Copy" for Audio and Video, then save it out (Save AVI) creating a new file, then try working with that instead of your original AVI file.

VirtualDub can correct many problems by doing a Direct Stream Copy routine. That may fix your problem.

    Good luck.

If your avi source is Divx with a VBR mp3 audio track, use VirtualDub to save the audio seperately using full processing mode. Then add the audio back in the your editor. You can confirm this problem by loading the avi into VirtualDub. If you get a warning about an incorrect VBR header (or similar), then this is probably the cause of your grief.

  4. Thanks! I'll try VirtualDub to reauthor the avi file. I captured the avi using Studio 9 and had no dropped frames then added menu and transitions. I tried to make a DVD movie to a file but it didn't complete. I tried making an MPEG2 file and the first time it crshed and reset my computer but did finally make the MPEG2 file the next time. I am rendering the file to a seperate HD with about 27gig. I have 1gig RAM and running 2.4gig processor. My capture card is a ATI Radon All-In-Wonder 9200 128. I've reloaded DVD Arcitect but didn't fix the problem. I'll try a different file after Virtueldub.

Just a thought, but is the drive you are rendering to using the NTFS file system or FAT32?

  6. The drive is NTFS. I have two drives. One is an 80gig with the system files and all my programs on it (C: drive), the other is 160gig HD E: & F: drive where I do the rendering and put the video files.
