  1. Hi all - can anyone point me to a good tutorial on setting up chapters in Encore? I've successfully created a series of menus and I've linked the clips so that they lead on one after the other; but they all have the same chapter number, so you can't use the Jump to Next Chapter on the remote.

    any help would be great!

    thanks

  2. Yeah thanks; found these already, and they are good, especially in the fact that they are video pre-records with v/o, but there are only a few of them - are there no more about on the net, apart from the standard Adobe ones?

I think I figured out my problem last night as my own definition of chapters was incorrect. I have about 25 video clips taken during our recent visit to Rome and they vary in range from about 10 seconds to up to several minutes; so in fact these could each be classed as a chapter if they are viewed one after the other?

Using the Timeline tool I found the Insert Chapter button (I'm a kind of Dive in and see what you can make it do yourself before wading into the manuals guy) which is basically a way of dividing up your video clips. A-ha! So I should have really have grouped all of my clips on a certain topic (The Colosseum, St Peters etc) into one large avi and then chapter up each of those avi's? The video tutorial doesn't really cover this area, hence my guess work.

At the moment I have a main menu with Play All and Select Chapter with play all obviously playing all of the clips one after the other; each clips End Action leads to the next. Select Chapter takes you to a Chapter menu and from there you can click on "Colosseum" or "St Peters" etc and that then takes you to another menu where you can select individuals clips to play. The override action for each is to return to the parent movie for that clip.

Everything works fine except for one small snag; when I preview, there is a Next Chapter button, equivilent to Next Chapter on a standard dvd remote. But when pressed, nothing happens. And this is correct as each clip has only one Chapter, the start. So when I burn to this to DVD and I am Playing All, will I be able to jump to the next clip without having to go via the Chapter Select menu each time? And if so, what button is that on the remote?

    thanks!

once you have the video file loaded on the time line, the 1st chapter with be automaticaly set to the first frame. Move the slider ( scrubber ) on the time line to whereever you want the next capter to begin and click Control/F1 or Command/F1 if you use a Mac. Repeat that process until you have as many chapters as you need. A little mark will be placed onto the video on the time representing each of the chapter point choices you've made.

  4. Fair enough reply; but some of my clips are quite short - there are 20 or 25 in all. If I am using Play All, how do I skip to the next clip in the chain created by using the End Action sequence using my remote?

If I were to take all of the clips and put them into one long avi and import that in Encore and set me chapter points as you suggest, great I would have all my chapter points. But what about accessing each of these points in the multiple menus I have created? The Wrigley video tutorial uses individual clips, not one long one, and drags them on to his menu and the static image menu buttons are auto-created. How would I do this with one long clip?

    thanks

  5. You can add a chapter point at the end of each clip. When you advance to the next chapter, it will take you to the end of the current clip which then advances to your following clip.
