What is this holiday and how did it originate?

It's the day after Christmas Day and is called St. Stephen's Day in Ireland.
I think the name comes from "boxing" up money or other Christmas Day gifts from the churches and giving them to the poor ... of course I could be wrong on that! -

Thats funny,I really always thought it had to do with fistacuffs. That makes much more sense.
So is xmas,"un-boxing day" -
Boxing Day, December 26th is as a holiday in Australia, Britain, New Zealand, and Canada. Sorry fellas, not in the U.S.A.

Even though we don't exactly celebrate this day, we do have organizations/churches/Salvation Army that people either make donations to or give gifts to...and those go out to those in need, including - elderly in care homes, homeless people, etc during the holidays.
If the perception from outside the U.S. is that Americans don't care...I can assure you that is not true.
