I have a vhs tape of home movies that is very dark when you play it. Whoever shot it must not of set the camcorder right.
Anyways, Is there a way a professional could "Lighten" up the tape so it's not so dark? Anyone know of any companies if this can be done? Thanks

Do it yourself...
Most video editors, incl VirtualDub, Vegas, etc, have a brightness/contrast adjustment.... that is assuming you have the hardware to get the video from camcorder to computer.
Otherwise, any video conversion shop would be happy to take money off you."speed's just a question of money. How fast can you go?" - Mad Max, 1979 -
Of course, it also helps to get a calibration disc like Video Essentials or The Ultimate DVD Platinum and make sure that you're not just seeing a dark image because you have the brightness and contrast set at the wrong levels. It also goes without saying that if the VHS in question was shot under dark conditions such as in a cave or in the middle of the night, fiddling around with the brightness is only going to produce a pasty, overbright, detail-less image.
You also have to be very careful with how far you adjust brightness. Too far can kill all the detail in the brighter areas of the picture.
