Disc Lead-In failure, 4 attemps....

I have a NEC 2500a burner and just got it. I read a guide on how to convert a xvid/divx .avi to mpeg2. I did it, worked just fine. Then i made some menus and set it all up in DvD-Lab and compiled it. I opened up Nero 6.3.1.6 Burning ROM and created a new sheet, DVD>DVD Movie.
Copied over the VideoTS and AudioTS and tried to burn it, failed on the lead-on. Tried it twice. Then i tried to burn like a 80mb divx file on a dvd-iso sheet, it failed also. I tried to burn that same divx movie to a cdr and it finished, but i can't read it in any drive?! All i did is install this dvd drive to secondary slave, didn't install and drivers or anything. Before i burned the dvd-iso and the cdr-iso i flashed it to that one guys thing, i think it was version 9beta or something. What is going on? I'm tired of making coasters....

ALSO, whenever i have a bland cdr/dvdr and try to open the folder with Explorer in my computer, it says

F:/ is not accessible, Incorrect function

is this a problem?

holy hell, i just burned a cdr with that 80mb file at 32x and it worked! i try dvd now...

P.S. I'm going to uninstall and try a different version of Nero. What firmware should i use? i have 1.06 right now

Do U try CopyTODVD before?

I only used Nero once: It stoped in 99% and jamped the PC for another 30min. I had to restarted the PC.

This might sound stupid, but try putting in the disc to burn and counting to ten before you click the button to start writing. Also, check the blanks you threw in the trash. They may be perfectly fine.

doesn't sound stupid at all, i still have the "failed" ones, when i try to re-burn to them nero says insert a blankdisc, idk if i waited 10 seconds or not, i think i rushed it, i got an rw so i try with that thx

you could also try creating an iso file with imgtools and burning with dvddecrypter.

Might also want to check to see if there is any updated firmware for your burner.

i'm going to try copytodvd, reinstalled nero and tried to erase a TDK +rw and it crashed out at like halfway through, tried with achohol, same thing. This drive is fugged i think, this totally sucks ass NEC

whoa, i uninstalled the dvd burner's driver from the device manager, then shutdown, removed the IDE cable to my burner, booted and made sure that my bios didn't show the dvd drive then shutdown, connected my IDE cable to the burner, then booted up and it seems to be working fine now .... about half way done burning to a +rw right now, good luck to me

well it worked for the movie that i converted, and played on my dvd player . I erased and did a full format on that dvdrw and now am trying to burn some files to it and it's failing again....damn't

I friggin uninstalled my NFORCE2 nvidia IDE controllers and windows installed it's on IDE controllers, i rebooted, it found the dvd drive and installed it's drivers, then i reboot, it still won't friggin read ANY media at all ANY, this friggin piece of shit. Why won't it friggin work?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? !? Doesn't anyone have any ideas please help before i break this shit

this has been the worse piece of hardware i've ever used, newegg aint never gave me shit like this i don't get it, i want to see if it works, it worked once for chrissakes

Just got mine from newegg this week. I installed it as secondary master and I did not flash the firmware, i still have the original 1.06. I installed the drive, turned on the computer, and it was good to go. I haven't had an issue. I use DVDDecrypter to burn ISO files. I've been using Fuji-R (the TY from the 10 pack and the G03 from the 25 spindle), and both have worked fine so far (10 burns).

Nero has a known problem with this Drive.

Record Now Max is the recomended software, though DVD Decrypter works just fine.

Come to think of it, Nero has a lot of problems with a lot of drives

i tried mine w/o flashing at first and didn't work at all, i have to test some more and see i went back to original firmware, but you make iso's everytime you go to burn something?

i uninstalled nero and used the clean tool, re-installed the aspi drivers, flashed to official 1.06 and i still can't read any cd's, it'll eject cds and stuff but if i put any in it just reads at it for like a minute then just stops and says "Please insert a disc" when i try to browse the disc through explorer. I got dvd decrypter but have no image files, i doubt it'll work, i guess i have to rma this shit :'(

stop doing anything, this is MORE than enough....

return it, and get another one....if it's not working the first time, something is wrong, I would not even bother to do this....
