  1. I know people say they backup their PS2 games with DVDRs, i've tried that but my PS2 won't read the burned DVDRs. Is the only way to mod my PS2? I don't really feel comfortable losing my warrantly by trying to mod it, i heard its hard to do on the PS2.

    Thanx,

  2. You’re probably going to get told that your questions not for this forum, but I’ll answer it anyway. Yes, you are going to have to mod your PS2. I went with the fliptop option from http://ps2fliptop.net (do a search there is plenty of places to buy the fliptop) along with the swap magic boot DVD/CD. You will have to take your PS2 a part but it was really just taking the top off and putting a new (fliptop) one on. Then you boot the PS2 with the swap magic DVD and then put your backup game in and it will play fine. I burn all my backup games with DVDDecrypter (for DVD’ games) and cloneCD or Alcohol 120% (for CD games)

  3. koo thanx for the reply. i wasnt quite sure where to ask this, i figured the newbie forum might be the safest bet.

  4. Any website that sells the fliptop will most likely sell the swap magic DVD as well. The site that I bought mine from http://ps2fliptop.net it was sold as a kit for $30-$45 depending on the color.

You don’t necessary have to have the fliptop to use the swap magic disk option but it not, your going to have to pry the DVD open to put the game in, that’s what the fliptop does it gives you a way to insert the game without pushing the button (which restarts the PS2 making the backups not work) I know of some people who use the card method to open it.

You may want to check out the forums over at http://forums.afterdawn.com/ they have a PS2 forum about backing up games.

  6. You don't need to buy anything to play back-ups on Ps2... The swap DVD can be downloaded, and the slide card is nothing... All you need to do, is remove the front of the disc tray on your ps2....

Not true a downloaded copy of Swap Magic Disk will not work!!! The DVD has to be pressed not burned!!! Thank about what you’re saying, if the PS2 can recognize a burned Swap Magic disk then it would recognize a burned backup game. Then there would be no need to use the swap method.

  8. Are you sure??? I downloaded the swap magic dvd, burned the iso using Nero 6, onto a dvd-r and it works... I didn't purchase anything but the dvd-r disks... Then, I followed the instructions provided to remove the front cover of my disc tray... It boots up just as its supposed to, and I only use the swap magic dvd with the dvd-r games that I am able to download and burn... I recently got Hitman Contracts, and it plays just fine using the way that I described... So, I do not know if it will apply for everyone else, but I know it works for me...

I don’t know how it is possible; I’m not calling you a liar obviously it worked for you. I’ve done a lot reading in many different forums and you’re the first person that I have ever heard of that it worked for.

    There is one way

The memory card exploit you can load the cogswap loader disk to your memory card but for that you need to have an orginal boot disk to load it up even though you only have to do that once it still kinda defeats the purpose and its a proceduse that you have to follow.

but you still have to boot with an original ps1 cd to make it work forps2 cd-r games and you still need an orignal ps2 dvd game to make it boot dvd-r games

If you were able to just use a downloaded image of the swap magic DVD then you have to have a ps2 with a chip. If could just download the swap magic dvd and make games play then they could put this code and you could just play thew backups like dreamcast games.

If it was possible just to download an image of the swap magic dvd and pla dvd-r games this would be all over the net and some videogame makers would be peeing in their pants right now

The proper info cant be copied and put into an image (this has been discussed many time before)

You might want to crack open your ps2 and see if it has a mod in it if you just downloaded a swap magic dvd and it boots dvdr (you might event just try sticking the backup in and see if it works without with the swap magic disk)

Stupid question, but what is the card method?

dont bother with all the blah blah blah. get a slide card. do a search thats all i can say. and a slide card will not void your warranty because you dont even have to open the machine.

I agree, slide card is the easiest to use, the least work done on your PS2, simply remove front of tray.

In my opinion, all these other options are garbage. Just send the PS2 to a professional modder and have it chipped. Then you will be able to load the backups without this swap BS.

Also, I think there are games that don't work with the swap tricks. Just spend a little bit more and get it done right.

No swapping, you can stick the game in and play and every game will work
If you can install yourself it even can come out cheaper than a flip-top/slidecard with swap magic disks

There are at least 8-9 games that wont work period with the swap magic disks and some require 2 - 3 swaps to make them work (most dont but some do) goto www.swapmagicfix.com to see the complete list of these games

With a chip you just stick it in and go. Some reliable chips are as low as $20 cost of install might vary from $40-$80 + shipping ~ $70-$130 total

For the price of repurchasing 3 games that might be destroyed
a chip and labor are paid for
well worth the price of getting a pro to chip it if you cant install yourself.

But different strokes for different folks I guess. if some people want to keep on swapping go right ahead but its not for me

I used a Neokey in a V1 for two years, it was great. Only one wire to solder. Left that wire in when I resold it on ebay. It used a GS swap & it was pretty easy.

  17. Easier just to mod the ps2. Just make sure you get a good chip and a good person to install it.

  18. You can buy premods too in california. the store I got them from has been online for a couple years & is near SF.

    e.g. a chip:
    $120 (DMS3 V9 with installation service)
    #DMS39CO

    Premod:
    DMS3 V9 MODIFIED PS2 (SCPH-50001)
    #PREDMS3V9

BRAND NEW V9 UNIT: $340 (FREE shipping)

That was the first ps2 chip I learned to install.
They were great back in the day

I learned how to program them myself and bought blank chips and a programer and soldering equipment.

I even came up with the idea of a neokey vertical stand that had a switch and would light up blue when it was active. (can post a pict of it if you want to see it)

Right when I tried to get playstationmodchips to to talk with me about it they got shut down and reopened without any mods and the messiah no swap chip and magic 2 chip first came out kinda killed my whole neokey thing

Lots of info there spent lots of time there myself but I have an alter ego over there

    I am not ps2daddy there
If you saw the pictures of the neokey stand over there then you know who I am, also was one of the first, if not the first to come up with the idea of using a no solder with neo key for those that couldnt solder no swap modchips back in the day.

I also put up instructions of how to make the gameshark work with this back in the version 5 days over there

There dont have much of anything about the neokey on that site now no swap chips are king now

Back in the days before flip-top evangelism on that site (Z's probably making a killing though)
Man.................... that was so long ago relatively speaking
