    Needed a new burner and 'settled' on this one.

    I tried to use my 4x Ridata media that I bought from Newegg - it does not like it at all. (It worked fine on my Pioneer A06.)

    But when I used some 4x Imation media, it burnt it at 8x.

    I'm set for a while, but what inexpensive media do you use?

  2. Jamos over of cdfreaks.com did a number of burns and the BenQ did very well with both + and -, but it really shines at +, not only in the burn quality, but for its speed (most 4x burn at 8x). It burned almost all + media exceptionally well, with on the cheap side, Prodisc 4x at 8x at 70 cents a disk to all the well know brands.

    Also a german mag did some CATS scans and found this + media:

    BEST DVD+R discs
    ================
    Disc trade name (ID) Burns within standards with... / comments

    - 3A Media DVD+R 1-4x (POMSC001) All sans Sony / excellent quality / jitter within specs (sans LG / Sony)
    - Fujifilm DVD+R 4x (RicohJPNR01) All sans LiteOn / very good quality / jitter variable
    - Platinum DVD+R (Ritek R02) ALL! / excellent quality / jitter mostly within specs (sans LG, LiteOn & Sony)
    - Verbatim DVD+R 1-4x (MCC002) All sans LiteOn / superior quality / jitter within specs (sans LiteOn, Pioneer & Sony)

    Memorex/TDK 4x + should be the RicohJPNR01 or CMC. The RiData is probably the same quality Ritek as Platinum. Fuji + would also be good I would assume.
