I've been active on this site for a while now and have seen quite a few usernames that have made me laugh, or made me wonder what on Earth inspired the name, or those that are just plain obvious.

So I thought I'd pose this request:

Explain your username, and your avatar if you feel like it.

Mine? My forename (highly imaginative, I know).

My avatar? Used to be the England Rugby rose in recognition of their 2003 World Cup win. Got bored, and plumped for "Gangster No.1" just as he's asking "What d'you take me for?" at the beginning. I'll leave those who've seen it to fill in the reply...
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.

Eddie izzard does a sketch about empires, and compares the slow collapse of the austro-hungarian empire ("which was famous for **** ALL!") to that of a flan in a cupboard. it's in his show dress to kill, well worth watching. the Avatar is a screen grab from my natural born killers laserdisc, during the NIN burn video, of an evil dude with bloodstained hand prints and the word demon projected on him. i quite like the film
As for being LD-King, no-one has tried to dispute that with me, so i guess i still am

I find written language anachronisitc and favor visually recognizable symbols instead of "readable" names. That is why I chose 888888, a row of six asses. To get into more detail, the six asses are actually a view from the bottom of six lovely girls riding a six seater tandem bicycle naked- think Queen's "fat bottomed girls".

My avatar picture, it is a scene from Family Guy. Anyone who can guess what specific episode that scene is from gets my official THUMBS UP!!!

I got tired of typing The Great Pat-o for everything, so I shortened it.

The Great Pat-o was a nickname I got in the 7th grade.

My avatars are just things I like. It changes every week or so.

housepig comes from a Korean expression, phonetically "jip dey jee", house pig, used by wives to refer to husbands.

my wife spent a few years in Korea as a kid, and hearing that phrase cracked me up. I was looking for a domain name at the time, and I wanted something easy to remember. crossedout (my old online name) was taken, so I snagged housepig. and here I am.

as for avatar - it's a sample from the comic "Red Meat" (check the sig link), in reaction to all the clown references around here lately. it'll probably change in a week or so, as will the sig line.

  15. Name: Ripper is a derivative of my initials RP. Although it has been speculated that it is also reflective of the immense size of my "manhood". 8) The 2860 is the combined score on my college SAT's. OK -- it's the combined score of the combined score for the 4 times I took them. Nah -- it's my age when calculated as the average of the 2 numbers 28 and 60 . (28+60)/2 = 44

Avatar: I tend to leave mine static for some time. Just whatever strikes me. However, my current one is actually a charcoal sketch of me and the look on my face when I saw the picture of Capmaster doing the nasty with his Whore/Goat/Clown ...

My wife says "At first there was silence. Then came the repeated screams -- "MY EYES! MY EYES! GOD HELP ME -- MY EYES !!!!"

Ever since then, I have been both physically and emotionally scarred -- not to mention that I cannot close my eyes as I am afraid to sleep due to nightmares. Hell, I don't even blink anymore. I am also deathly afraid of all things vinyl, and the sight and smell of Cabrito makes me sick!

There are many, many years of therapy ahead of me, thanks to Capmaster !! BTW -- I will be sending you my prescrition out-of-pocket expense receipts! :evil"

  19. The name bottle-necked? When I first started browsing this site looking for answers to my many video capturing problems I read a very funny post here that mentioned the word 'bottle-necked'. I guess I was thinking about that when I registered so the name. Nothing special, sorry.

I don't post much anymore but I read quite a bit and come here fairly often. I do a lot of video work for pleasure and for hire anymore and I have a lot to thank this site for. You all have helped me much. Without coming here I would probably of given up long ago on video capture and such. Now I do pretty much what I want to do and how I want to do it. Thanks guys and thanks for this site.

  20. Pacmania is the name of a fake cult we (my friends and I) that revolved around mass suicides and had Pacman as our leader. We were trying to see how many nutjobs would sign up.

The _2001 comes from the year, originally it was pacmania_2000 but I changed it in 2001 for the year but liked it so it never got changed yearly again.

The avatar is a picture of the Will Hay Posse annual general meeting where we discussed how to secretly control the Off Topic forum.

The signature is a play on those crappy campaign ads by Bush and Kerry where they have to they approve this message and how'll they make America better.

Avator...well, it wasn't my first choice...but I had to use something that was less than the size limit, and after resizing everything so many times, I wasn't happy with the results...so I snagged one from this site -
    http://roygual.sphosting.com/index.html

I used to collect these stickers when I was a kid and it's kinda symbolic in a way....being that I still retain some of my youth and being a novice in the computer world...you can read more in between the lines if you'd like

  22. The basis behind my nick?

Well it is a torrid tale of politics, murder, sex and intrigue
set in the far east, spanning the globe and ending in the
unforgiving hell that some call the "never never."
I'd tell you but then I'd have to kill you.

    My Avatar?

Few know that the term avatar was invented by F.Randell Farmer
and Chip Morningstar as part of a virtual reality system called
Habitat coded with lots of sprites on the Commodore 64. Later
"avatar" was made famous in Snow Crash, a SF novel by the great
Neal Stephenson, who invented the Metaverse - the internet
    that will be.

My current Avatar in DVDrhelp is based on a famous civil defence
    film. Details [HERE]

Wow! I didn't realise I'd be so enlightened...

Thank you to all those who've contributed so far - I feel like I've learnt a little bit more about a lot of the people who've helped me, or who I see posting regularly.

I reckon posting here should be compulsory as part of registration - might cut down on some of the agro and short fuses if people know a bit more about each other.

I hope more people add to this - there's still some usernames I'm intrigued about...

bugster, racer-x, makntraks, FOO, jimmalenko, lordsmurf, zworg2, tweedledee (and the head-butting-keyboard avatar!), FulciLives, Gazorgan, Hardcoreruss, Will Hay (obvious, but couldn't leave him out...), SLK001, SatStorm, mats.hogberg (especially your avatar), mmasw, ZippyP., johns0, tompika - oh, and Baldrick of course!

    Hey Damon,
As you already know, my username is a tribute to a great British comic actor of the 1930's and 40's.
His name was 'Will Hay' funnily enough
My location is a fictionary place in one of his (finest) films, and my signature is a tribute to one of the finest members of this site, quite possibly of our generation.
My current avatar (yes, I've changed it, amazing I know!) is a tribute to the millions that died during the two wars (but this was obvious too, right?)

    Rob.........Will
tgpo, my real dad, told me to make a maximum of 5,806 posts on vcdhelp.com in one lifetime. So I have.

I chose "Capmaster" because I've spent almost all of my free time for the last 2 years capturing video, mostly VHS, authoring and burning to DVD-R.

"Imp-shii" is a derogatory, condescending, colonial arabic slang that means "STFU" and "Buzz-off, you bother me". Aimed primarily at impatient newbies that don't research the guides and post "OK, now how do I start ...what hardware do I need".

The wet, pissed-off kitty avatar I picked because, well, cats are funny when they are pissed-off.

My first avatar was a relative eating a hot-dog, then the pissed kitty, then an animated clown face with moving eyes, then Pennywise the clown with pointed teeth opening and closing his mouth, but that scared too many of the members here and it wasn't up but for a few hours, so I went back to the cute little pissed cat

LOL I'm not a cat person myself... Then again, I think dogs are stupid and too dependent. If I was allowed to have one, my choice of pet would be a Mexican red-knee tarantula.
