  2. If you are referring to rippers: OSEx, DVDBackup, MacTheRipper, YadeX. If you are referring to a application that compresses the DVD to fit a DVD-R then I think there are no free versions of such a program. DVD2OneX and DVDRemaster are the only mac programs that compress and reauthor DVDs.

  3. Abother thread has yielded this free transcoder: http://www.hillmanminx.net/transcoder/ which works with program streams (vobs). It does not detect pulldown so make sure you know if the file is 24 fps or 29.97. YadeX and OSeX can extract program streams either from the DVD or from the decrypted folder (after using MTR)

FFMPEGX also has a dvd 9> dvd 4 option for use with vobs. If you want to keep menis DVD2One X and DVDRemaster are your only choices and aren't free.

And then for burning, you can use DVD Imager to make a DVD image out of a DVD folder, and then use Disk Utility to burn it.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

Disk Utility is an Apple utility located in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder. The rest can be found on VersionTracker or Google.
