  1. When I try and open the .DAT files to play the VCD, it asks me which program I want to open them with. What should I do? Thanks-

  2. Choose Windows Media Player, and it will play...

If you do this a lot, I suggest that you put a link to WMP in the "Send To" folder under Windows.

Then, you can right mouse click on the "DAT" file and "send" it to WMP with ease.

    This question buggesd me forever.

Keep in mind that windows probably protects these extensions as they are taken by its registry files (system.dat and user.dat).

However if you want to do it (this was the easiest for me).

Start Run Regedit (yup you are going to mess with registry).

Expand the Hkey Classes Root branch and look for .dat key on the left.

On the right it should say Default "value not set". doubleclick on that default and change value data to mpegfile (yup just simply type it in).
Hope that works. Back up registry first though in a case something goes wrong.

WMP7 I notice don't like these too much (VCD Dat files). You can only open one at the time.

6.4 should play them just as mpegs (if you have them in the playlist or something.

Again you can try also holding shift key and right click on file.

Or you can try some playlists I created.

    A!
