  1. Ohhhh Kay!!!
First, let me thank all the experts for the prompt answer to my last post. Youse guys are da best.
Unfortunately, i gotta new prob. After a couple of months of no capturing, the wife had an old vhs tape she found. No problem, i thought. Just hook up the ol' vcr to my ancient STB card and capture away. Not this time. Jerky preview in both VirtualDub & AmCap and lots of the dreaded Drame Froppage But wait Kmart shoppers... There's more! My cable captures are PERFECT. No droppage at all. Used both the RF and composite lines. Same thing. The only thing I have done to my XP box is do some security updates. By the way, i'm using the btwincap drivers, latest version. Usually I smart enough to figure this stuff out with alot of reading from these forums and trial & error, but this one has me stumped. Again, thanks for the help.

i've had the same problems with OLD tapes. newer ones cap ok and sattelite caps don't drop a single frame. but old tapes that have been played alot or are starting to degrade lose tons of frames. lord smurf has reccomended buying a tbc to solve some of vcr caping problems. i haven't tried it but you might give it a go.

You probably have a tape in poor condition. You might need to buy, beg, borrow or steal a Tine Base Corrector (TBC) to clean up the signal from the VCR. This is typical with older tapes.

There's not much you can do with an older tape except strip off the timing and replace it. A TBC is an excellent piece of gear to have if you do even a moderate amount of tape capping. Try to get a full-frame TBC instead of one that only buffers the horizontal timing.
