I am so used to backing up my regular DVD's now that I don't exactly know how to take AVI files and burn them to a DVD so they can be watched on a DVD player. I use DVD decryptor, DVD shrink, and Nero for my regular DVD's and that works just fine but I don't know what to do with these AVI files. I'm sure it's pretty easy but I need a little help.
    Thanks.

  2. May I recommend the convert section, select avi in the first pull down and dvd in the second, read the guides there.

My process would go something like: -

Virtualdub - Remove audio to wav
Tmpgenc - Convert to Mpeg 2
Tmpgenc DVD author - Create dvd Structure
    Nero - Burn
    If it's wet, drink it

  3. Buy the phillips dvp642 for $69 and then take all the avi's you can fit onto a dvd and burn them as a standard data disc. Then put them in the player and have fun. This machine will play avi, mpg4, divx, xvid, avi with ac3, mp3's and it will be worth the $69 instead of the hours needed to encode one movie. Well thats just an idea.

This dvd player is being sold at the following stores

    Wallmart

    Best Buy

What you're doing wrong is burning them as standard data. Your mpeg needs to be authored. Author section over there <-<-<-

I totally agree that this dvd player is a great leap forward- instead of converting the .avi's to mpeg2 with tmpgenc and burning to 2 SVCDs, I can just put (most) .avi's unconverted onto a single data cd and play. But when I tried putting a bunch of them onto a data dvd and playing them, the machine "rejected" it - i.e. it simply tried loading the disc for a few minutes and then opened the tray. There was nothing wrong with any of the .avi's, when I put them onto cd's they all played. I'd like to use dvd's (the fewer discs I have to store the better). Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

The only other thing this dvd player is fussy about: there is a "hack" here on this site that tells you how to take the DVDXCOPY warning screen out of DVDs made with that software. I tried that a few times and while those DVDs played perfectly in my old Sanyo, this one rejects them too. I recopied them with DVDShrink and the copies worked fine in the Phillips...

    So, any help?

@mouldy mould and jimbo4571: Hijacking threads in not really considered good manners. This thread belongs to pyrate83. If you have a question of your own, start a new thread - it's very simple., and will most likely give your question more attention as you can even give it your own subject! ...and while on the subject of Subject, try to have a little more fantasy than "Urgent help needed" or similar...
One for you jimbo4571: "Why does my DVD player show the mpegs I've written to CD as mp3 files?"
and one for mouldy mould: "DVD2SVCD error: couldn't locate a decompressor for fourcc xvi"
