  1. Hi,
    still trying to get a decent first rip! Just tried to encode sVCD using TMPGEnc and got a message saying something like "mpeg2 trial period will end in 2 days..."
    Waht does this mean (since Tmpge isnt for sale anyway) and how do I get around it?
    2. How do I make use of a bitrate calculator to make sure the file size will fit on one CDR.
    (maybe these questions belong in newbie forum, sorry!)

    On calculators: Don't even try unless you plan on encoding using CBR (Constant Bitrate) or 2-Pass VBR (Variable). CQ_VBR (Variable with "quality" setting) is unpredictable.

    I'd try the VCD help calculator, it works well for me. Just make sure your "AVG" rate is correct, and audio sample rate matters also... 2-Pass will yield the best results, and CBR is obviously predictable (it should be a precise amount of data per sec)

  3. homerpez, actually, i use CQ_VBR (Variable with "quality" setting) with tempgenc...and it's pretty consistent...it varies depending on the ratio of the movie being encoded...more pixels on the screen that the movie takes up=>bigger filesize needed to code for those pixels...but still pretty consistent...

    unstuck2, try one of the older versions of tempgenc...i personally use beta 12a...it's quality is among the best of all the tempgenc versions and it doesn't have any expiration date...however, if you wanna use the version u have, search the forum cuz i've seen ppl post ways to "unexpire" your tempgenc

    You can it simply reinstall or use that I have sent you as Private Message!

  6. To get rid of TMPGenc's 30day limit on MPEG-2 run regedit search for:

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{63902277-B101-4049-8B46-C24B67E155E5}

    that's what you want to delete:
    {63902277-B101-4049-8B46-C24B67E155E5}

    This will reset the clock back to zero. So you have to do it every 30days.

  7. thanks.
    since i'm not too comfortable in the registry, I'll try re-installing first, else I'll have to be brave and do as you suggest.
    (what private message?)
