I loaded an OGM file up from Explorer and it killed my Video Player as well as Explorer itself. Now I find this happens with all AVI's too. I get the feeling I've mucked up some codecs or something, but I really don't know what to do to fix it. I never had trouble with AVI's before... this just happened since I started trying to get things set up so that subtitles would show from the OGM. Any suggestions where to go from here?

Back. If you're on XP, you could do a restore of your system from a point in time where it all worked.

I haven't really installed any codecs in quite a while (I think... I can't recall if I installed any kind of ogg codec)..... but I did install Vobsub and ffdshow recently, and I screwed around with settings in ffdshow. Could that be the problem?... I tried uninstalling it though, and that didn't help anything.

I am on XP, and I could try a system restore... but I'm not sure if there are any system checkpoints far back enough..... and I'd like to find out what the problem actually is, since I'd probably do the same things again in trying to convert an OGM to SVCD.

Alright, I'm all good now. I did do a system restore as suggested (thanks, I don't know why I didn't think to do that).... and then the AVIs and OGM worked again without crashing stuff.

... then I used this tutorial: https://www.videohelp.com/srtsubsvirtual.htm to get the subtitles to work (rather than the one I tried before). So I didn't end up getting the same problem. I haven't encoded the whole thing, but I tried a small sample and the subtitles definitely worked, and nothing crashed! ...... thanks for the help you guys.
