What do you mean when you say "system preferences"? If you mean the thing that used to be known as the control panel, then the answer is there are no optimum settings - they should have no effect on ffmpegx. You'd be better off posting what your exact problem is

  3. Try to export your .mov file as a self-contained movie (by using Quicktime Player) and encode that one.

  4. i tried that but still no dice:

Encoding started on Wed Apr 28 15:15:08 PDT 2004

**ERROR: [yuvscaler] Could'nt read YUV4MPEG header!
**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: system error (failed read/write)!

  5. ive actually made a little progress here,i saved the movie as "a self contained movie, using QT,then i tried to encode to VCD again.it still didnt work, until i went to "options " and turned on "Decode with mplayer".however after about 10 minutes encoding it failed again, and i got this:

wait, encoding to mp2 audio with mp2enc...
/Applications/Video/FFmpegX/ffmpegX.app//Contents/Resources/mencvcdX: audiodump.wav: No such file or directory
    INFO: [mplex] mplex version 2.2.2 ($Date: 2003/05/13 20:27:15 $)
INFO: [mplex] File /Users/davidmurphy/Desktop/bl.mpv looks like an MPEG Video stream.
**ERROR: [mplex] Unable to open file /Users/davidmurphy/Desktop/bl.mpa for reading.

    any takers?

  6. Convert your audio to WAV with QT Player then to mp2 with ffmpegX. Finally combine mpv and mp2 with the "Mux as.. VCD" tool.
