  1. I have been regularly checking these forums for years but looks like nobody has faced the problem I have right now. Hopefully this is the right forum for my problem as it is PowerDVD related. I sent a mail to Cyberlink a few days ago describing the problem but yet to receive a reply thou' I m pretty sure it's not a problem with PowerDVD.

I have converted my entire DVD collection to DivX+AC3 and stored on the hard dive and mostly play from the PC. But the T2: Ultimate Edition, has a DTS track which is much better than the AC3 counterpart. I backed up T2 too in DivX+AC3 format but every now then and I find myself popping in the DVD so that I can enjoy the DTS soundtrack.

Recently I converted the T2 DVD again, but this time I ripped the DTS soundtrack instead of AC3. I muxed the DivX video & DTS audio with AVI Mux GUI and also with the latest version of VDub (which supposedly has DTS bug fixed). But the problem is I can't play the muxed files in either PowerDVD 5 DTS version or WMP. I know to play DTS in WMP I need to use the dtssource & dts_to_ac3 DirectShow filters. But that's not what I want.

I normally use PowerDVD 5 to play the DVDs and other media files and it outputs thru the SPDIF port of the soundcard, which is connected to my 600W receiver.

When I play the ripped DTS file (only audio) with PowerDVD, the DTS LED on the receiver glows and it plays just fine (without video of course). But after muxing the video & DTS file using AVIMuxGUI or VDub 1.5.10.1, PowerDVD doesn't play the sound at all. If I install the dtssource directshow filters, I get the sound from WMP but the DTS LED doesn't glow and also the quality of sound is not good. Those DS filters convert the signal to DD I guess and that way we lose the advantage of having higher bitrate DTS signal.

PowerDVD plays DivX+AC3 just fine and it also plays DTS based VOBs and DVDs & also the raw DTS audio. So could there be a muxing problem in the DivX+DTS file ? Is everybody able to run DivX+DTS files fine on PowerDVD or m I missing a trick somewhere ? Any help is appreciated.

  2. I got a work around for it. The Media Player Classic version I tried with the DTS+DivX files sometime ago, was several months old. Downloaded the latest version which has the DTS passthrough and the receiver is getting DTS signal now .

It's a work around and not a permanent solution because the video quality/features of MPC is not at all comparable with PowerDVD 5 and also use of a freeware (MPC) doesn't justify the money spent on PowerDVD .

For the time being, well, Media Player Classic is doing the job .

One thing is sure, the muxing is fine. So it's a PowerDVD problem.
