I have just successfully converted a Xvid file to vcd onto a 900 MB disc.
Original file(XVID) started out as 716,950KB....
But can't seem to do the same with a 717,164KB file..
Have i just been unlucky or is there a logical explanation?
Also does the conversion differ in size if you convert between say mpg to vcd, divx to vcd etc?
Sorry to be a pain but i'm just a beginner in all of this.....
Thanks for your help......

The only things that effect mpeg size are total bitrate used and the length of the movie. We know that VCD uses 1150kbps video and 224kbps audio but you haven't mentioned the length of your avi.

The length of the movie is 1hr 45 mins long....
If it is too long what's the best thing to do with it....... -
You have a couple of options:
1. Use non-standard VCD specs that will allow the movie to be put on one CD. Check out jimmalenko's guide. The only problem with this is that some DVD players are very picky about non-standard spec discs and have trouble playing them. Yours might not be one of them but consider yourself warned.
2. Spread the movie over 2 VCD's by splitting the avi or using the "source range" function in TMPGEnc.
