I took a vob file burned it to dvd. When I went to watch my movie, there was an upper and lower frame leaving a small section in the middle of my television screen for the movie.

How can I avoid this? While in the encoding stage or authoring stage? Any ideas. I do not prefer the panoramic view.

you could shift from widescreen, but that is the way it was originally filmed. If you switch, you will lose part of the picture.

What DAR is your movie, and what DAR is your telly? (!6:9 or 4:3) You can't watch a 16:9 movie on a 4:3 display without black borders top & bottom. You say
I took a vob file burned it to dvd
but then ask if you've made some encoding error. If you have a VOB, it's already encoded for DVD?!?

Hey gitreel, nice to see ya again lol

So that is the way the movie was originally filmed then? I see it alot.

Ok, as long as it has nothing to do with the way I encoded it.

I am a little new at this. I am not sure what a DAR is

Is there a way while preparing to encode in tmpgenc plus to eliminate the border.?

While watching the avi file being encoded I can see a border , upper and lower, in tmpgenc plus while it is encoding.

often if you do the conversion, the picture will be stretched. The peoples heads will be distorted. You could zoom in on your dvd player, and it will get rid of the borders. Be prepared to lose part of your picture though. The process of going from widescreen to full is called pan and scan. The widescreen movies that you see with the borders are the way the movie was shot. If you had a widescreen tv those borders would disappear.

That is also why when you rent or buy a movie and it states it has been modified and formatted to fit your screen. The studio has taken a widescreen movie and converted it to full screen.
