Check out the ADS Pyro Platinum. You get a great FireWire ort and the full Adobe Premiere 6 (download the 6.01 patch for XP). At $279.95 it is a great choice.

We also have a very soecial new option. We've bundled the full Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.5 with a PyroDV PCI card. This not only gives you a very easy to use NLE package, but you get all the new Ulead DVD plug-ins. Check out http://www.videoguys.com/ulead.htm for more info on this bundle.

If you don' have the $ for Premiere use Moviemaker included with XP. If you need a DVcard then Studio 7 DV from Pinnacle. About a $100 with good editing soft.

You can also try http://www.scenalyzer.com I haven't tried it yet because I just got my DV cam and no firewire card yet bt it looks pretty good. Also, price is not bad at $33US and a demo is available.

I picked up an ATI DV Wonder several months ago for less than $50 retail (CompUSA). It has three firewire ports and included Ulead Video Studio 5.0. I'm also new at this video capture / edit / CD stuff, so maybe I don't know any better. The hardware and software are working without a problem. FYI - there are two patches available at the Ulead site for Video Studio 5.0 and the MPEG 1 video bit rate for xVCD is limited to 2000K. For rates above 2000K look at TMPGEnc for converting the AVI to MPEG.

So far I have utilized UVS to 'capture' from a D8V camera, edit, and save as an AVI file. I'm still playing with the settings in TMPGEnc to try to get the best quality xVCD (my DVD player does not support SVCD).

I understand that Pinnacle also makes a good card. You should check out the forums here. They have helped me immensely!

My system is Win98SE, 512MB, AMD 1.2G TB on an MSI 6380 mobo, ATI AIW Radeon (haven't played with the video capture on this yet), and 2x40GB WD drives.
