cannot delete video files

sorry if this is in the wrong forum i cannot delete my avi files off my hard drive. when i try it tells me that another person or program is using it but there is nothing running. how do i find out what is wrong?

reboot, then delete

thanks for your replies much appreciated all fixed and working well i have a pain in the ass machine that didn't come with boot up disc and according to the powers that be to create the master cd it would take up to 10 cd-rs so followed guide and it worked thanks again. where would i be without you all
