I seem to have this bug which I think is some sort of pop-up generator that I can not get rid of. It is called abledit.cpy.dll and is some sort of "vx2 better internet" bug. Of course it is not giving me better internet. I tried running spybot and adaware with newest updates and spybot doesnt find it and adaware says it is running and can not delete it. Latest norton antivirus can not find it. I tried rebooting in safe mode and still can not delete it. I tried doing a regedit and msconfig search and could not find it. I tried doing a search on yahoo for abledit.cpy.dll and got nothing. This thing can not be deleted or found for some reason. Any suggestions.

I've fought versions of the VX2 crap before. Apparently VX2 is the downloader for various different stuff. Heres one site that might give you some ideas"http://computercops.biz/postt31557.html I found Spybot will find some of them, but you need to update it, then run in Safe Mode, with the internet unplugged. Just as important, find the file that started it all and destroy it. I got mine from Kazza (Should have known better. These VX2 things change their names, so they are hard to locate. You can search Google for VX2 and find more info. If all else fails, restore or reformat.

Thanks for your help. I was not aware you could do a search in regedit so I was probably not finding all I could. I found this albedit.cpy.dll in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE: software\microsoft\windowsNT\currentversion\winlog on\notify\guardian.
I delete the whole folder guardian but everytime I reboot this guardian folder appears again. I tried booting in safe mode with no improvements. It seems to all be caused by this abledit.cpy.dll which is at D:\windows\system32\abledit.cpy.dll. I can not delete this no matter what I try. Windows says that it is in use and can not be deleted. I tried safe mode and still it can not be deleted. -
I had that vx 2 shit as well. Its a MOFO. I would suggest going into DOS(if you arent 2000/XP) or using a boot disc and blasting that shit off. I know 2000 has bootdiscs, not sure about XP. But it seems that windows keep opening the file so you cant kill it.
Safe mode might work. But if you can make a boot disk, do it(you should always have one around anyways).A bird in the hand is worth a foot in the tush-Kelly Bundy -
wow finally got rid of it. The link from redwudz did it for me. I was pretty much shooting in the dark with granting and denying permissions but it seemed to work. Now it only takes 20 seconds to boot as apposed to 1 minute.

Hey, glad to be of help. I ended up reformating the first time I got that crap. Just be careful out there. By the time you eliminate all of the stuff, you usually learn to spot the trojans, etc. There is a lot of resources out there, you just need to search a little.

Hijackthis is also a great little tool to see what is going on with your system.
