    HI,

backing up a dvd to S\Vcd, its around 2hr12mins in length its Pal and progressive 25ftp.
Ripped it to hard drive with smart ripper. Loaded it into dvd2avi encoded video only opened the .d2v file in Tmpeg no problems so far. Played with the settings via tutorials tried different templates Eg.. Kwags ... and when I preview the movie is good quality but its jittery, You don't get smooth playback. So I read more, tried a few different tutorials to tweak settings ... applied different templates read a lot of posts and still cant get the video playback smooth.
So I tried to encode it with a program called Supper dvd ripper, I got good smooth playback but it was blurred and it had squiggly lines through it.

Tried a few other different programs to try to encode this. I know you don't get dvd quality when converted to a s\vcd, but it has to be better than this.
I tried today to encode it with dvd2svcd and CCE via tutorial. I found that it paused for a few seconds on action scenes. I tried to do the tutorial that explained the Q-value, bitrate .. to gain better quality
Just couldn't figure out how to work it out like it was explaining in the tutorial. Not sure exactly what it was I was adding ... Or where to look to get the length from the 1% it encoded. Feel I missed something there, somewhere.

So What would be the best way to do this, or what am I missing.??
I have a feeling that I may be loosing something when I convert the vob to avi Using dvd2avi since the only thing I found was that if converted straight from the vob without using that program I don't get it. And there is a little shuttering when I previewed in dvd2avi, but not as much as when I previewed in tpmeg.

I know this seems like a long winded post, I wanted to let you guys know I did try alternatives and a lot of tutorials to try to work this out without having to post this.

    So any idea's??
Any help would be appreciated as I have been going this around a week now. I think I should mention I tried a few differant versions of dvd2avi to see if it was a compatability problem with the same results, also updated tmpeg.

    Thank you

  2. Out of curiasity, have you tried playing one of the encoded movies you did on a DVD Player ? burn into a CDRW media and check to see if the problem also exists on a regular DVD and not a PC.

Cause on a PC there can be many issues interupting the playback, even a bad MPEG decoder or a conflict with codecs.

I will try that today, I was leaving it till I exhausted all other options. I dont have a cdrw but I dont mind wasting a cd trying it. I like to play so its not the time I am so worried about, its more the not being able to work out the problem that annoys me more. lol

Thank you for your reply. Enjoyed playing with your tuts, so there is bonus to all this, at least I am learning things I may need later on.
