DeCSS was created by "DVD" John, so that he could play his DVDs on his Linux machine. Nothing to do with piracy.
At first, it was not intended for piracy purposes, but it is what paved the way for piracy - it provides the means, so it is everything to do with piracy.
    If in doubt, Google it.

yet he was acquitted twice, and now he has come up with DeDrm. Drm is the devil. The studios dragged their feet in bringing out dvd for fear of being copied.

  3. Just for accuracy's sake, in Aladdin, what he says on the balcony is: "Good teenagers take off their clothes". It's not "all you kids take off your pants and have sex".

When DVD-Video was first released, they claimed it was uncopyable because they didn't realise that for it to take over the entire home video market, they were at some stage going to have to market a recordable version. It surprised the hell out of the DVD Consortium that the tech-illiterates were complaining that "there is no record button".

A lot of the DeCSS debacle sprouted from the Consortium's desire to tell people not only which media they could play, but what they could play it on. It wasn't until after DeCSS that plans were even announced for a Unix-based DVD software player.

All that Disney sex stuff is just old women and dorks with too much time and too much sexual frustration.

The only confirmed sex image was in the Rescuers, and done on purpose by somebody in production. Old story. Came from a porno movie popular at the time.

All the other images, lines, etc ... are merely people WANTING to hear/see such things.

If you believe that Disney is full of sex, consider yourself a gullible lemming. You probably also believe Elvis is alive, and aliens live among us.

Nilfennasion, you are wrong about the uncopyable thing, the people who were responsible for creating dvd let dvd set on the shelf for a couple of years berore releasing it because of hollywoods fears of piracy(their words).

Do you really expect them to give you the whole story?

When I spoke to someone at Columbia Tristar a couple of years back, I was told that they thought it would be a long time before PCs would be capable of duplicating an eight-gig disc. They felt that hard drive storage limits and disc-speed reading times would prevent DVD recording on anything but standalone units for years to come. Obviously they were mistaken, but it is quite amusing, coming from someone inside one of the largest studios in Hollywood.

If the studios were sated in their piracy concerns by CSS encryption, then they must all be run by techno-illiterates. To encrypt something with a mere 30-bit key is kind of like painting a target on your system to let the hackers know where to hit you.
