Most people do it becasue they don't agree with jack valenti. If you bought 1 you have a copy. If you want another copy, buy it. Why should I have to pay three or four times for the same movie as many have questioned before?

Watch for the part in the movie when Aladdin goes to visit the princess on the balcony, you can hear a soft voice whisper "take your clothes off"
If you go to the part where abu has taken the has touched the forbidden treasure and he is standing on the stones which are exploding in
the lava...listen very carefully, and as they are exploding on either side, he says "oh, shit!"
lion king:
the part where simba sits down and a poof of smoke goes up, if you pause and go slow mo you'll see the word sex appear
i dont know the others exactly, but i know theres more
must be those darn pirates doin this, arrrggghhh -

In today's world were films cost as much as $170 million to make, it would be more profitable for film studios to not make films at all. So this argument holds absolutely no water.
As for the cost of DVD's...... It is a total joke !!!! If I spent $10.00 to see the movie and then expected to pay $19.99 if I want to own it.... A complete scam !!! Hollywood isn't even using Vasaline hereEven a fool can be wise, all he has to do is keep his mouth shut -

I read not too long ago about a new transfer system being developed that would allow you to download starwars in about 3 minutes.

Another reason people pirate movies is it's the only way to get some of them!
I want tons of the old movies, BOB HOPE, Dean Martian, Jerry Lewis, Both together and after they went on their own, Tony Curtis ect..
Back when movies were actually good! The stuff I grew up with. Well actually some were old movies then, but that's what I liked so that's what I watched!
OK, where do I buy those?? Sure I might find the Great Race or one or two others here or there ocasionally, But where can I just up and buy them when I want them? I CAN'T!!!
I went as far as getting connected up with 3 of the biggest movie distributers in the USA! I can find half of the movies I want listed as "DEAD STOCK", Discontinued, Out of production! They don't have anything I wanted!
As for buying newer stuff they do have, as a small guy I would pay as much or more as buying from Walmart, so I never orderd anything.
Even the old stuff I did find available they wanted $7-$10 to sell to me, but I got them on DVD for $5.88 at wallmart instead.
If I can not buy the movies I want from these guys (or walmart), then the movies are not being produced!!! They were sold on Tapes once, maybe in the 70's or 80's, but I cannot buy a new copy today through any "LEGAL" market.
SO why should I not "PIRATE" myself a copy if a friend has one of the old tapes I wanted to buy! Or if I find a copy on the street why should I not buy the pirate version?
I have already basically been told "Go away, we don't want your money" by the big compananies handling these movies I want! They don't make them to sell, they don't show them in theatres, They don't show them on TV! In otherwords at least for the time being they have said this is nothing we want to mess with, so throw it in the back and let it rot or get lost, it's trash!
Like they did with many of the 3 stooges and some really great classics!
They already refused my money, so why should people like me not "PIRATE" this stuff.
As for the newer movies, that's different, most aren't even worth owning a pirate copy of them! And if it is sold where I can find it I will buy it if I want it!
Way to help end piracy, put ALL movies online forsale for $5 each! Just one giant movie database where you can download any movie ever made!
You know how much money they would make off something like that!!!
No producing disks, packaging, shipping, distributers, stores or anything else to eat into the profits and jack up prices! $5 to download any movie would make them MORE money than selling them at WalMart for $10!
And those $5.88 movies I am grabing at walmart by the arm loads they ain't even making $5 off of!
And how much do they make showing them on TV when you guys record them on your VCRs?? I can honestly say I don't do that, ever!
I don't have TV
Just VCR/DVD players!
Ok, new release like Rings 3 sell at the store for the $20 for the first year or so then stick it online! But all that old stuff they aren't even selling is a gold mine they are to dam stupid to dig into!!
As for the download times for DVD quality movies, Big cities you could get them easy enough. T-1 is about $300-$650 per month in many areas! I am in a very rural area and 15 miles from a ATT pop area, so for a leased line T-1 It would cost me about $1500 per month. I have to go though Centurytell for the line, Move 15 miles I get same T-1 for about $600! direct from ATT. Heck I am actually thinking of setting up my own ISP and serve both areas wireless! All I need is 2 towers and I can shoot the 15 miles to my home. I am looking into this heavily, but I have lots of hills I have to worry about, so it may not work out for me.
So yea sure nobody gonna pop $300-$600 for T-1 just to get a couple movies, but if I set up a Net Cafe you could come in and pay me about $2-$5 bucks an hour to use MY T-1 and get your movies
People WILL do that if they have too! That would not be a problem in big cities!
If I get my wireless ISP set up, you could just subscribe to the wireless for $30-$50 per month and have nearly a virtual T-1.
Heck I actually rent an office at my ISP now, just so I can have decent download speeds. Lan connection to the net severs are much better than my 33k connection at home
Did this so I could actually download those programs listed in the tools section as trialware and freeware!! Plus the ones I bought and had to download!
So If I go to all that trouble for some cheap software, people will do it for movies too!
And as far as audio, every song ever recorded by every arist should be online for download for about $0.50 or less! I got $200 I would blow next week alone for some stuff I want! But I ain't gonna pay $20 for some moldie oldie collection that only has 4 songs I want in it, so I do without the songs and they do without the money I would spend!
But at 50 cents "US" I would buy 400 songs for $200 fast as I could get them!
And at a reasonable price like that, why would anyone mess with P2P getting garbage half the time and trying 3-6 times before getting a decent pirate copy. I thnk nearly everyone would just buy it direct instead!!!
As for downloading a good copy you buy and then sharing with friends, that ain't gonna happen no more than people buying it at the store and making copies to share that way!
But at 50 cents, most people won't bother with it, so no need for expensive copy protections that don't work anyway! Same with the movies! -

He got stuff like life plus 70 or 75 yrs ran through for music copyrights! Also got the fees encreased a stupid amount!
Someone writes one lousey song and they are supposed to be set for life? But you bust your a$$ as a fireman, autoworker, teacher, and you get nothing but a one time paycheck for some chump change, yep that's a fair way of doing things
Also think about it, the performers have no rights! The best written song in the world ain't gonna sell squat if everyone hates the singer and band!
It's the actors in the play that makes the play good or bad, but they have NO rights to record there own performance becuase it violates the writers copyrights?? The worst written play in the world is good if the actors perform well, and the best written stinks if the actors stink! But the play groups have no rights to record and sell the plays they perform??
This is one I am looking into for loopholes since I am recording and making DVDs for a play group. Currantly just for the actors in the group! They do have a right to own thier own work too, no matter what anyone says otherwise! So far they only did acouple plays and at lest one was public domain. Depnding on how you read the law and copyright.
That's another thing too. Take a public domain work, change a couple things, call it your own and you now own the rights? BULL!!
Ok the play was performed from the script book, that was based on an older movie, the my was an interpatation of a book written back in the 1800's I think. SO, does a copyright even apply??
I gaurantee the play did not come off as written in the script for it, so does that copyright even apply? Basically they tried to do the serious play as it was scripted, but they did so bad it was actually a comedy and it turned out great! SO many adlibs, cut stuff from the script they could not do in the little theatre, cast jokes played on each other.
They were in it for the fun, had fun, turned out great! Is that covered by the copyright on the script?
Copyright laws are just goverment sponsered crime! Steal the rights of the performers and give them to the one person who wrote one thing one time! -
Why do you think stuff like shakespear etc is so popular, certainly exceeds life plus 70 years anyway!

I agree with you completely overloaded. I have sent a couple e-mails to one of my senators. I am also an active member of boycott-riaa. I just wish there was a boycott mpaa, because I would join that cause too. Crotch(Jack)Valenti is a horrible excuse for a human being. I think he needs to go back to transylvania where he belongs. To sum things up, we pirate(gross misuse of the word)movies out of rebellion. Anyone that compares the vcr to the boston strangler shoud be shot

EFF.org is a good one too.
Copyrights should expire ... much like trademarks ... after a REASONABLE period of REASONABLE inactivity.
Jack Valenti, Bono .. all part of the old regime of a crappy beaurocracy. As long as they die off and nobody takes their place, sensible laws can be put back into effect.
People like Ashcroft and Powell Jr are to blame too. Let's get those guys the hell out of office.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Try looking into what movies are already in the Public Domain - that's one of the reasons why some of those movies aren't available...no one owns the rights to them anymore.
Some are just lost...'cause the studios didn't store film properly in those days...while others are being restored and will resurface again.
Try searching libraries also (local and national) - many rare things there.

The problem is that some people are interested in power only for power's sake. Jack Valenti is an excellent example.
In South-East Asia, there are places where bit-for-bit copies of DVDs are stamped out every day and sold on street markets. The encryption system does nothing to stop this - it only discourages casual copying of the disc's contents (and not very well, as forums like these prove).
Were Valenti and his ilk really interested in stopping pirates, they would have done something to discourage the mass piracy industry that has a hold in, surprise, some of the poorest countries on Earth. -
People pirate movies because they can.
When DVD was first released, it was meant to be and was marketed as "the uncopiable media". Bad idea. All that did was provide a challenge for a few hackers. I think the first product to circumvent the protection was DeCSS, and if I remember rightly, the creators got jailed ?
I first entered the "piracy" ring when I purchased a CD burner. As a financially struggling university student, I wanted to copy my purchased audio CDs so I could play them in the car and also so that it didn't matter if I scratched them. The outlay of $300 for a burner and $1 a disc was a good deal. 11 CDs later and I was saving money as opposed to paying $30 per CD for an original. Call it piracy or call it fair use.
Movies are the same. DVD burner around $150-$200, media $1-$2 per disc. The thought of purchasing 2 copies @$30-$40 each just in case you scratch one doesn't really appeal to me. 5 movies later and you are saving money.
Some of you will call this Fair Use.
I don't know whether Australia is covered by this, but I'll claim itIf in doubt, Google it. -
