  1. Looked at the firmware upgrade instructions and found that the instructions make me nervous.

The instructions are below, and the question I have is with #2-3 which say to find files of 40 meg or more and to burn them along with the files they provide. How many files of 40 meg or more? And why??

Does it make any sense to you? Is this common to randomly
select these files just because of their size?

    1.Download two files, ìU700-AM.ROMî nd ìU700-MM.ROMî from
    our http://www.apexdigitalinc.com website.

2.Go to the file folder on your hard drive. Find files that have at least 40 megabytes or more.

3.Burn these files to a brand new CD-R/CD-RW disc along with the two downloadable files (it must be incapital letter) from our website.

4.Put the CD-R/ CD-RW disc into the DVD player. The disc will automatically begin to load then write the information. After approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute the screen will display done. The disc tray will open. Take out the CD/R CD-RW disc. The firmware is now upgraded.

Just looking for some clarification before I do something that will leave me with a dead 700

Yeah, I had to look at those instructions back in February when I first got my AD-703 and decided to crack it for macrovision and regions.

I used Nero to burn. I dragged 50 megs of ZIP files to the CD which all had names that started with every letter before P. The file I had to burn was called POIUYTRE.ASD, so it would be the last one Nero burned. They do this because then the DVD Player's lens can read your file better, I thought. I mean, it only makes sense for that to be the case. Why else ask you to burn for three more minutes than you should be?

Once I inserted the CDRW, I expected to see everything that the webite with the cracked firmware told me I would see. The screen turned all garbled with digital distortion and then some text appeared that said to press something if I wanted to continue updating the firmware, or to press something else to cancel. I hit the approprate key, then the display turned to black and grey lines going up my screen. I cycled power on the player and then when I hit the setup button, I had a LOOPHOLE menu and inside were my options to disable macrovision and select/bypass the region.

So your update should be somewhere along those lines if all goes well! Good Luck!
