  1. Hi everybody,

I am new to this forum and I have a question about capturing. I've red lots of guides and learned quite some stuff, but I found no solution so far.

First, I can usually capture without problems - from TV as well as from VCR.

Now I want to capture a VHS video with some dropouts. The video is running top to bottom on these dropouts an I get dropped frames. But that's not the problem - I could live with it. The problem is that the sound capture has no dropped frames, so I get more "sound-frames" than video frames, causing the audio to play too late by time. Adjusting the framerate does not help, because the out-of-sync-problem is not linear.

Per dropout, I loose about 25 to 100 frames and there are about 6 major dropouts in the video (and several smaller ones). So the audio jumps ahead for 1 to 4 seconds per dropout.

I am using VirtualVCR for capturing - usually with good results. The "Resample Audio" option does not really help. It needs some minutes to readjust the audio after each dropout, resulting in some minutes of out-of-sync audio after each dropout.

Capturing with VirtualDub does not work for me, as I have a capture card with Brooktree chip, and can't capture in full resolution. The work-around described on the VirtualDub homepage does not work for me for unknown reasons. (Any hints here ?)

I've learned so far, that an external time-sync-box would probably solve my problems, but 200$ is definitely to expensive for me.

So, ist there any capturing software that is simply able to drop the audio frames when it needs to drop video frames - or any other software solution to my problem ?

    Thanks in advance,

    bluebox

P.S. No, I am not an idiot, English is just not my native language

Actually, your English is much better than some of native English speaking members' posts I come across. Anyway, have you loaded any of the Conexant drivers for the BTPCI cards? My computer and Virtual Dub mod likes them just fine.
    Hello.

  3. The capture card's brand ist hauppauge and I use up to date hauppauge drivers. I am not very eager to mess with my drivers, as they are working fine so far. VirtualVCR has no problems with the drivers, so I suppose the VirtualDub-problem sits elsewhere. But ... would the capture capabilities of VirtualDub solve my audio-sync problem ? If so, I could set up a second WinXP to experiment with the drivers.

If you are so wary of doing it, I would advise against it. I use a Pyro A/V Link and a Hauppage Win TVGo and the Win TVGo likes the Conexant driver.
    Hello.
