  1. Is it even possible? It doesn't have to be anything super-duper special, but just enough to discourage the average Joe from copying my VCD's.

    Any ideas?

  3. "search on this topic. already answered"

BTW, I did do a search and received a lot of speculative ideas, but no one has a tried-and-true method that they claim to work.

I haven't quite figured out this forum yet. A lot of bitchslapping the new guys who want to learn.

  4. Yes here's a way. Disc copy's don't work but it's still possible to copy your vcd. You need to generate a bin/cue file of your mpeg. Using Vcd imager. Here's a sample cue sheet created.
    FILE "D:\shrek\shrek.bin" BINARY
    TRACK 01 MODE2/2352
    FLAGS DCP
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
    TRACK 02 MODE2/2352
    FLAGS DCP
    INDEX 00 00:11:53
    INDEX 01 00:13:53
    Open Cue sheet in Fireburner
You notice that the second track ends at 74min13sec subtract 2sec from where your last track ends and add another track to your cue sheet. As below.

    TRACK 03 MODE1/2352
    FLAGS DCP
    INDEX 00 74:11:70
Save your cue sheet and then reopen it in fireburner and burn it.
The data can be converted from your cd but cd 2 cd copies are difficult. for more info here's a link.

  7. Budmo, you obviously didn't use the search well.

There is absolutely no way to copy protect a VCD in a way that is either not completely trivial to overcome or affects the playability of the disc on a stand-alone machine.

  8. Not an acceptable answer, vitualis.

I know that if someone really wants to copy my VCD's, they'll find a way, and I am okay with that. I simply wanted it to act as a safeguard against those who would simply try to do a disk copy and give up if it didn't work. Trying to discourage the masses, I guess.

Yes, I have seen you more than once post that as your answer, but I wanted to challenge it and see if there was a reasonable way to make this work. I also saw a few posts with various ideas how to make it work but saw nothing with any real conclusions.

I am going to try Myke's method and do some empirical science myself.

Since this is the second time I have posted on this forum after reading it almost daily for the past few months, I feel pretty secure in my abilities to search in a forum. In other words, I've spent a lot of time reading, but have only posted when I really needed help. I have reaped much knowledge, but both times have been hazed for asking a question. This forum has a wealth of knowledge but it also seems to attract some people who have no interest whatsoever in helping people who want to learn. I appreciate those who are willing to help on a free forum, and I am disappointed that there are also some who act as if they themselves have been experts in VCD creation from the beginning.

I understand that it can get a bit tiring to keep "going around the mountain" but please don't assume that a guy trying to get some answers hasn't also tried to do his homework.

Thanks to those here who help make this forum a source of help for those who need it.

    Regards likewise.

    Fair enough.

Okay, I can accept that. However, you've hit the nail on the head. You can't stop someone who REALLY wants to copy your VCD with a copy protection method. And even with the method posted before, it is as simple as putting the disc in the CD drive and copy and paste the "DAT" file.

If you do find a really good way of copy protection, be sure to post again... However, my impression is that it is a lost search.

    Good luck.

    Regards.
