I have tried several times to flash my 401 to the 411 firmware, everytime i am unsuccessfull, the yellow lite just keeps flashing. I do have one of the very first ones that were released, I'm not sure if this is the problem. The only reason I want to flash it to the 411s, is that the booktype utility does not work with the 401s, and I would like to change the booktype. If anyone knows of a utility that works with the 401s please let me know!

Liteon has released a firmware for the 401 that enables bitsetting and you can d/l the bitsetting tool from their site. Also cdfreaks at their website has an app that will change the firmware that allows bitsetting so that you wont need to run the booktype every time you reboot and need to burn,it will be set to dvd-rom all the time.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  3. As johns0 said, if all you want is bitsetting, then upgrade to the latest 401S firmware. If you really do want to upgrade to the 411S to allow dash support, there's more that you have to do (not just a simple FW flash...)

Yes I did more than just flash the drive, I don't even think it will allow you to flash the drive without changing the EEPROM. I tried several times without any luck. also What advantage will dash suport give me.

  5. How did you change the EEPROM?

Actually, the safer way to flash to a 411S would be to not mess with your EEPROM, but instead to just patch the firmware to get rid of the EEPROM check, but what's done is done. Personally, I'm disillusioned with the dash format. I now use +R and +RW exclusively because they're technically superior and the +R market is not as flooded by shitty media as the -R market.

Curious, is anyone having trouble DL'ing the newer firmware updates from LiteOn site?

Everytime I click to DL, it just refreshes the DL page with 1 higher total DLs for that version.

No problem with my browser or DLs anywhere else.

    Cheers,

    George

    Clay, thanks for the response.

No, not now, went to prefs, allowed popups, tried, same deal.

Went to other machine, running Firefox browser, same thing, ups the count by 1, displays the same DL page.

    Cheers,

    George

    Clay,

Thanks again, tried IE, all's well. But, I don't like IE, anyhow.

  10. The LiteOn webmaster was on crack and thought that it'd be cute to do the downloads in VBScript. That's why you need IE...
