  1. could one of you good people please help. i want to back up my region 1 copy of gothica but my pc will only "play " region 2 dvds. smart ripper will rip it but iam looking for an easier method. i have dvd x press but it will not read it nor will dvd shrink as it is region 1.dvd ecrypter will read it and copy it but is there any way of switching the region of the copy to region 2 so i can play it on any dvd player , your help would be greatly appreciated.

    It's not free but it removes everything on the fly. Makes commercial DVD's look unencrypted and all region.

    you are allowed to change the region on you drive 5 times. Why not change the region code on your drive to 1. You pc will then read the disc. Most of the rippers will then make the copy of the movie region free if you select that option. You can later change the region code of the drive back to 2 if you want.

    If smartripper works, then you have an answer. DVD X Copy may cut this down by one step, but in the time it has taken you to write this and wait for a response you would have had it ripped and well on the way to a burn.

  5. you can use DVD region-free, you will have to pay for it but then you can play/burn any dvd from any region.

  6. You don't have your details filled in. If you have a DVD-Rom in addition to your writer, just set it at region 1 and your writer at region 2 for the the odd times you might need to read region 2. Makes no difference for reading your own region-free burnt discs on the RW. I've never had to use any of my region changes, since my writer was region 2 out of the box.
