Ditto. I'm going to pass a BB later today and think I'll stop and pick up a 10-pack (10-pack w/slim jewel is $29.99; 25-pack cake is $44.99).

Re "shits and giggles", I think I'll burn prior to using them for either of those activities.

Sort of oxymoronic.... analog style for a digital format.... I saw they also had cd-r's that looked like vinyl...

  12. I remember back in the 80's we used to buy blank Teac audio cassettes that had clear shells and 'reels' inside. They looked just like somebody took an open-reel pair and miniaturized them for casette use. They made them with different reel colors: gold, silver, black, green and blue.

I used to rip LPs to those blanks and let my friends borrow them. I had a Technics SL-L2, a direct-drive linear-tracking turntable, and I was the coolest kid on the block.

Then I got a Teac X1000 open-reel recorder. That's when the hero worship really took off!

  16. These have been around for ages. I always see them at Future Shop and Best Buy, but they're ridiculously expensive. I think they were $15 CAD for 3 of em.

Ummmmmm.... inkjet printer? Then you could use high quality disks, and have that look.

  18. I don't know. Having owned an open-reel deck, I think that the more I look at those discs, the more I see cheesy hubcap.

  19. I've used a half dozen of these. No big shakes. Very expensive ($12 for 3 discs at Best Buy.) I prefer the Ritek GO4's. Though I have to admit, the Verbatim discs look cool. I'm not really a good judge of good or bad media...I haven't had a coaster from any brand I've used thus far.

Those are top quality discs (+R). They look cool, and you can often get them on sale for $4-$5 forthe 3-pack.

Yeah, they've been around for about a year.

    I usually get them here.

The "vinyl" CD-Rs are cool, too.

Too expensive. Even Apple MCC's were only $3 each.

    They look like hubcaps.

TDK, PRODISCS03, MCC, and I think MXL (disturbed1, can you verify?) all use Metal AZO.

Optodisc 4x uses Metal AZO too.

    BUT.....

Metal AZO is just a type of dye, that can (and is) mixed with other chemicals.

You can't say that Metal AZO = highest quality. That's like saying Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs are the same as CMC. Too many different formulas going around for that. Wish it wasn't so, but it is.

TDK (with TDKG02 and TTG01) are made by CMC in Taiwan now, so no Metal AZO. TDK also uses Taiyo Yuden for the 4x media, Ritek G04 and Maxell for the 2x.

These Verbatim are said to use "Advanced Metal AZO", which is an improvement over their 2x Metal AZO.

Verbatim (Media ID MCC) can also be made in two plants. MBI (Moser Baer Inda) and Singapore. Look out for the made in India ones. Though better than princo, the quality just isn't as high as the "real" MCCs.

  29. The box on the 10-pack (+Rs) I bought indicated the disks were made in Taiwan.

Regardless, if I buy these again, I'll go for the cake box and then only if they're on sale (or otherwise much less than I paid). The 10-pack (as well as the 3-pack, I believe) come in individual clear plastic cases and seem to crack easily.
