Recently I asked myself the question how to make an exact backup of Lord of the Rings Fellowship Special Extended edition with 100% Quality.
After spending hours searching the Forum and the web about this and couldn't find anything about this topic (execpt one that mentioned a demuxing/Ifo editing/sound conversing method, that sounded far to comlicated).
So, I tried to find out myself an I did: As many times mentioned here, its realy easy to make a copy of the second dsic, by just cutting off the credits at the end; it would also have enough space left to fit one or two chapters from disc one on it and disc one doesn't have enough space for the last two chapters... -Get the trick? *g*
So all you have to to is first RIP both discs to your HD, copy the first Disc except the last two chapters, copy the second disc with the last two chapters on it and cut of the credits.
Heres a dummy-guide to follow:
1. RIP a full bakcup of both disc to your HD; you can use DVD Shrink (as I did) or any other DVD Ripper.
2. In DVD Shrink select "Re-Author" and open the first Disc from your HD Folder where you ripped it to. -Select Title 1 from the Main Movie, drag it to the left side and select "Set start/end frames" from the context menu. Select Chapter 26 as the last Chapter.
3. De-Select all auio streams, except one and leave your prefered subtitles.
4. Make sure that the compression is on 100%, or better manualy select "No Compression".
Burn the first disc.
5. Select "Set start/end frames" again, but this time select chapter 26 as first chapter till the last one (28 IIRC).
6. In the DVD Browser Select the Folder of your second disc and pull Title 1 from the Main movie again.
7. De-Select all Audio Streams exept one, Select "No compression" in the compression settings and select "Set Start End Frames" again on the second Title 1 'Title1 (2)'.
8. Then put the End-Frames Bar at the right and move it left slowly. Regularly cklick OK and check, if it already fits. (I stopped at the point where Eliah Wood abpeared in the credits)
9. Cklick "Backup" to burn the second Disc and enjoy a 100% quality backup of your Fellowship SEE DVD!
PS: I realy do like my backed-up DVDs more then the original. ;-)

What an great first post!
Offering a guide instead of asking a question.
There is hope. -
I guess I should really be a stickler for the rules here and take the moral high ground;
No Menus or Extras ???
I like reading the credits. I want to know exactly who it was that sucked Peter Jackson's ****...errr, I mean, who his personal assistant was.
Don't mind me...I'm jealous that an idea as incredibly simple as yours has worked. As I said though, you were pretty lucky that the movie is obviously just the right size to be able to do what you did.
Good luck to you though. Enjoy. If in doubt, Google it. -

My method for obtaining a 100% perfect copy of a DVD has always been:
1. Walk into Best Buy.
2. Pick up the DVD from the shelf.
3. Take it to the cash register.
4. Whip out the credit card.
Simple!Don't sweat the petty things, just pet the sweaty things. -
