I was backing up Deep Cover last night and would have had to compress the main feature to 52%. I figured this would be bad for a semi-action movie. At what point should one say f it its not going to be worth it

I think Russ summed it up perfectly. I like my films to look great and I'm not interested in most "special features" so I cut them out to make more space sometimes.
Having said that, I started out ages ago making VCDs so things are one hell of a lot better (and easier) now.

You dont say anything about which transcoder you use, so i asume DVDShrink, and it seems like many peoples experience is that below 75% is not so good anymore, probably depending on the movie type. Semi action movie, i think the result will be noticeable better using CCE 2-pass re-encoding instead of domain transcoding.
