  1. 1. Trying to follow guide for DVDShrink - when I hit 'backup', everything just disappears, and I'm left at the desktop.

    2. Also Autoshrink 3.1.1 - when I try to open, error message: Runtime error '-2147024894 unable to open registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DVDShrink\DVDShrink3.1 \Preferences\TargetSizeMB" for reading.

Can anyone help please? Have yet to burn successful DVD back-up. Burning software with LG burner is NeoDVDPlus5, B's Clip, B's Recorder Gold 5. O/S XP. Have tried uninstall & install etc but no success.

  3. when an application disappears on you, it usually means that there was one hell of an error. I dont think there is a magic bullet that will fix it easily. One question that will probably lead you to your answer is is the machine that you are using one that has been piecemealed? Meaning, has it been slapped together and a lot of install uninstalls, etc.???? If so, that is probably the problem.

A lot of people that I support fall into that category. No offense is meant by this, but a lot of people think that they are tech guys and load/unload all kinds of crap on their machine, do a half ass install of their OS (some have even been pirated versions) and then get surprised when things mess up. I doubt anyone here will want to look through your entire registry to help you pinpoint the source of the errors, so the only advice I could give you would be to reformat the drive and start loading ESSENTIAL applications one at a time. Might be off base and someone knows a better answer, but I am usually dead on in these scenarios.

Wow, an honest answer. I agree a lot of troubles stem from installing/uninstalling shit on your computer. This can certainly include games & stuff, they can rip your drivers apart. I'm a victim. But somehow XP seems to hold together. Just turn off the power for a few hours, then turn it back on & boot up. (My system hates "restarting"). Just give it a rest.

you want might to open task manager, to see if the program is actually running in the background.

  6. Sorry - newbie - what is warez? - don't want to do the wrong thing.

Thanks for tip on DVDShrink forum site - will try suggestion here which seems to be similar to my problem.

As I'm newbie, have not downloaded much at all. In fact this is first time, so am a bit cautious. My system and hardware was purchased/leased as a package, so should be ok.

Thanks for all who tried to help - will work my way through suggestions.
