  1. I am currently using DVD Shrinnk 3.1.7.6, DVD Decrypter and Titleset Blanker as my tools to burn dvds. Generally, I'm very happy with the results, but I read the screenshot comparison review of the various burning softwares that was posted on the website and noticed that the screenshots using the Intervideo DVD Copy 2 Gold were very impressive.

The company's website says that you can manually control compression. I downoladed the trial version and cannot see where compression can be controlled. Any help on this or comments about this product in general would be appreciated.

The whole test was bogus. The pictures that are supposed to be created by Inter Video are actually the same as the original...

    Donīt believe the hype...
Stick with DVDShrink, way better IMHO.

  3. Thanks!!

I've read other reviews of dvd copying software that weren't so hot on the Intercopy product. Check this out:

    http://www.dvd-copy-software-review.com/

That review obviously didn't include Shrink because it's free! I've been happy with it, but just wanted to know if people thought there was a better product. I used to use XCopy Express. I love the results, but don't love the fact that it doesn't allow much control over what I can copy.

It was a very accurate test. Almost every piece of software you pay for will produce better video than the highly touted Shrink on long movies. The test pegged InstantCopy and Intervideo as having the best vid quality... that is true. Obviously both programs have a few quirks, but if doing a large/long complete DVD (dropping below 70% and not removing anything) Shrink and Recode's video short comings are very noticable, while IC8 and Intervideo still look good.

have you actually used Inter Video Dvd Copy 2???
I have it and let me tell you there are some titles that it does a better job of shrinking than CCE. But in all cases it does a better job than any other transcoder on the market. If you dont believe it get the trial and test it for yourself. Then use Bitrate Viewer to compare the original and the transcoded versions. you will see that IVDC2 most closely matches the Q values and variable bitrates

  6. Yep, I have to agree with pkath123.

I downloaded the trial version of Intervideo after seeing that very same 'test' and results I got on every backup I tried were below par... large artifacts present on some scenes, and a general grainyness.

Shrink is good enough for most people, though I personally prefer 3.0 beta 5 as it seems to give better results than the more recent versions

  7. rich_jtg,

I read your response to my post and noticed others who have used Shrink 3.0.5 Beta. Somebody posted a download of it, but being the idiot that I am, I'm having trouble with it. When I tell Shrink 3.0.5 to open and rip the movie, it does. It rips it to a specified folder, but it doesn't have the feature that 3.1.7 has, where it actually writes it to my dvd burner using Nero. As best I can tell, with Shrink 3.0.5, all I get is the ripped movie on my hard drive. I still have to open Shrink 3.1.7 to write the movie to dvd-r.

Any ideas from anybody using 3.0.5 Beta would be appreciated.

  8. I'm not sure, since I don't use that version of shrink. But couldn't you simply burn the folder using Nero? Just open Nero Express, select DVD-Video (this is the latest version of Nero, btw...not sure about others). You will see two folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. Double click the VIDEO_TS and click the Add button. Browse to where the DVD Shrink Vob files are located. Select every file in that directory and click Add, then finished and Next. Name your disc, set your burn speed and hit burn.

    G'Luck!

EDIT: Just read where DVD Shrink might make an ISO file, if this is the case then the above guide won't work. You have to burn an ISO using DVD-Decrypter.

i guess with only 3 posts this is kind of expected. Shrink is first and foremost a transcoder. it's ability to rip is secondary. for you to state that all you can get are RIPPED file(s) with Shrink tells me you have not use Shrink for what it was originally intended...to transcode.
second, Shrink 3.17 does NOT burn dvdrs. it CALLS Nero to burn. you can CALL Nero yourself...try double-clicking on the Nero icon on your desktop. BTW welcome to the forum.

you can sound like a jerk all you want. but that doesn't help the new people with their problems.
from the earlier version you do just get a VIDEO_TS folder with the transcoded movie.
Some people don't know what settings to use in Nero and others want the one click ease to backup their movie.
So you can "CALL" nero yourself and change your tone with the new people. Just because he only has 3 posts it doesnt mean you need to treat him like he has nothing to offer this board.

Thats also for version 2 I've been using Intervideo Dvd Copy V1.2 500+ movies and still have had no problems 100% quality on all my burns.I do quite a bit of testing on all my burns 100% there too. The second version is quite buggy. Plus if really look all those pictures they are different do you really think they would spend all that time with 8 or more different programs testing them if it were bogus.
