  1. Just got said burner but having problems when writing at 8X with it. I bought an OEM one and flashed it to hacked 1.10 but the 8x would not work using ritek G04, all I got was about 20% into the burn then it would freeze then continue after a few seconds but the damage was done. It burns a quarter into the disc then leaves the rest blank which is visible on the disc. Sent back said burner but back to original firmware and now have retail pioneer 107. Have not touched the firmware at all still at factory 1.10 and I still have this problem even when I used a proper 8x JVC disc that came supplied with it!! I have tried it using nero and record now max any ideas guys coz it is doing my head in!!

  2. Maybe your JVCs are not yet supported by the firmware.I think the 1.13 gave support for some 8X media, but i recall Verbatim MCC and Ritek i think.Maybe it's a media issue.

Regrettably I flashed my A07 with 1.10 and burn Ritek G04's at x8 flawlesslly, sorry
I know that doesn't help and I'm not gloating, but I fail to see why mine drive would differ to yours.
    Good luck

  6. Cheers for the replies guys I am using purple Ridisc GO4 4x so I don't know whether it will be the discs as I seen on another forum that higher end discs will only do the job ie Verbatim. The problem is when it gets to the 650 mb stage and the burner goes from 6X up to 8x that is when the disc goes potty. The thing that I can't understand is that I see so many posts saying that they get cheaper discs to work flawlessly (Princo) for example. Anyway thanks again and am now off to test some cheaper media....

  7. I tried the hacked firmware versions but went back to the factory ones after losing several disks. I'd rather burn at 4X and get a reliable result....

You might wanna give the new firmware a try <Pioneer DVR-107D v1.13 - RPC-1, 12xRip, nx4all> Someone posted a link in another thread.
I already had the 'patched' 1.10 but this one takes the cake. It adds nx4all even on +R media.
I was already writing 1xPrincos @6x w/outta problem yet. I've also just done a couple @2 & 4x...and all seems well. I think i feel a lil more confident in my burns @4x on these 1x disks anyways. And of course my Ritek G04s stay burning @8x :P

P.S. Im not sure how true this is, but i heard that if u apply the 'patched' FWs & then flash back to origional FWs...Pioneer now checks the broken drives for this. Who knows, just something to think about when flashing back & forth. PEACE

That's one reason I paid a little extra for Newegg's replacement warranty....

  13. Just out of curiosity, why would you spend money on an extended warranty when the drive itself is less that than $100. By the time you were to pay the shipping, mess with the any headaches you could buy a new drive with more features. Now when the drives were $300 or more I could understand... Well to each his own.

Think of it this way, anymore taking a family of 4 to a decent dinner is $50.00 and we don't put extended warranties on this. So skip 2 dinners and your in like flint...

    have fun guys...

Where in the Hell do you live? $50 here will get you a few cheese burgers a couple shakes and maybe just maybe some Fries

  15. Clay, either way you missed the point, its not worth shelling out the money on the extended warranty for a drive that will be obsolete in 2 weeks.

San Diego, California, decent dinner at Chilis, on the Boarder, Souplantation is about $10-$15 per person. Then we have the Mexican shops, mmmm Carne Asada buritto.

When I am in vegas, a nice new york steak dinner is like $6.99

Maybe this will answer you question:

    1 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY ORDER 1 $9.60
Even if I were to exchange it after 23 months, it would still be worth at least $10. Perhaps you're thinking of retail store warranties, which are usually much more and which I rarely buy....

  17. Ok lets look at this

    $89 + TX + Shipping + Warranty= $115 roughly

    $89 + tx = $94 - Local Computer show

6 months later drive fails and has modded fw installed.

Extended warranty typically extends the warranty past the manufacturers drive but still has the same restrictions and more. Drive is may or may not be covered, but in this case we would have to work with the mfg. Pioneer.

Headache for RMA + Shipping + Extended warranty Not in Effect Yet: $10 plus time but this can be done with or without extended warranty.

12 months later drive fails and mfg warranty no longer in effect. New replacement drive is now $60 and has more features or you can go to the following

Time On Phone for RMA + $10 Shipping + Time Waiting for replacement if they don't detect false FW:

Or you could run down to the Computer Fair pick the new 16X DVD burner up for $60 or the Duel Layer for $80 put it in and rock and roll all in the same day.

The funny thing here is the fact that you already bought the new drive and just for principal reasons your wasting your time on an extended warranty for a drive that is only worth $30. Now I am not saying that an extended warranty is not needed, because it sure can be beneficial at times, but if your that hard up for being able to return a product then buy it from Costco they take just about anything back.

The rule of thumb on extended warranties is this. If you buy one today and it broke down, could you afford to buy a new one tomorrow. If not then an extended warranty is probably beneficial for you. But the fact of the matter is if you buy 10 different items in a month and purchased extended warranties on all of them (Then you could have afforded to replace one the next day if needed) . If you can afford to replace it then chances are you are better off taking the risk of it failing then buying the warranty.

Don't forget the sales guy wants you to buy it and probably told you its covered even if you dropped it off your balcony. But the tech guy who is making $6 an hour and paid commision for each person he tells sorry the warranty does not cover that.

  18. Not to state the obvious but most credit card have automatic extra year of warranty at no charge. I only had to use it once in ten years but it is reassuring.

  19. 1. It depends on the credit card, having just quit working for Citibank, I know this for a fact.

    2. I refuse to have credit cards, as a result of working for Citibank.

    3. The computer show only comes here one time a month, so if my drive fails the Monday after the show, I have to wait 4 more weeks to get another as you suggest.

    4. There's absolutely no guarantee that the computer show would have the drive I want, at the price I want.

    5. The computer show charges $5-6 admission. After two such shows, I'd have already paid more than the $9+ I paid for the warranty.

    6. If the drive fails, I may have to track down one of the vendors from the show, who may or may not be willing to exchange the item (as has happened to friends).

    7. As I stated in a previous message, I purchased the drive from Newegg.com. As it's an online vendor, I didn't have to deal with:

. . . the sales guy (who) wants you to buy it and probably told you its covered even if you dropped it off your balcony.
    8. Newegg.com has an excellent reputation and handles RMA's very promptly, as I have learned from personal experience. Just check out OverClockers.com and take you pick from any number of unsolicited testamonials.

    9. I used to be one of those guys who was forced to try to get people to buy warranties. That's the primary reason I don't do that kind of work now.

Shall I continue? The bottom line is that I determined the warranty may serve my needs. Your needs are your affair and have virtually no bearing on mine....

Well we know what Johnny C would do, and you have proven yourself to be a great sales person. The bottom line is there is no right or wrong here. As I said before one has to determine their need of a warranty on a particuliar item and this decision is usually based economically.

By the way I am considering buying the pioneer as a temporary drive until the DL drives are available. My current Sony DRU500a has been a great drive and is still cooking, but I am considering the flexibility of the pioneer drive and its hacked fw. Besides, one of my other systems would like to have a dvd burner in it.

Precisely, and thank for the compliment. I did do pretty well when I sold computers, but I got fed up with pressure to sell expensive extended warranties that I wasn't convinced were really necessary. In general, I don't buy them, but I do make an exception once in a while. In this case, knowing that there were hacked firmwares for the Pioneer drive, and that they may make it difficult to get service, I decided to get what looked like an inexpensive insurance policy.

Incidentally, I also replaced a Sony DRU 500A. It was a good drive, but I did have a problem with it early on and found Sony's service to be disappointing, even though I did get it fixed. Also, if you haven't checked out Newegg.com, I strongly recommend it. Keep us informed and good luck!

Interestingly I just read a post for NIL where he stated that Ritek DVD+R 8x , R03 I believe, will not burn at 8X on Pioneer 107D with the official firmware. He referred to some problems between the two companies. I tend to believe people who write their own firmware. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

Sorry, I meant the R03. I also had mine burn just fine with the official firmware as well, but NIL insists that we did not burn at 8X only at 4X even though the software reported differently.

  26. I re flashed the drive and did these scans.

These are the official 1.13 scans with the Ritek R03 DVD+R's

I then Flashed it back the the hacked one and the results were the same with in a couple seconds.

Nils a smart man maybe he just got a bad batch.
