  1. If I may suggest....

    Use DVD Shrink "Re-author" mode.
Drag the movie title to the left pane (you probably know that but others reading this post might not).
Right-click the title, and use the "Default Streams" sub-menu to select the subpicture you want played automatically (#1 for region 1 version, #3 for region 2).

  2. I use V3 Beta 5, keeps the subs just fine. Sometimes the older ones are better. After beta 5 some versions completely took out the closed captions. sigh.

Hmm, have you thought of that? just turn on closed captions on your tv & watch those instead.

  3. handyguy, closed-captions are not included on all commercial DVDs; far from it.
Also, DVD Shrink v3.1.x is the only version that does not remove them.
    Closed-captions are not subpictures though.

Thanks much for your help, of course it worked fine. I have a question for you as you seem to be a shrink advocate. I have seen reports of pixilation with the newer versions that is missing with the 3.05 beta.

    1. Is the older version better than the newer (quality of picture issue)?

    2. What is the optimal compression setting? In other words, don't go below this setting.

    3. So far quality in DVDclone2 has been fine. How does Shrink compare?

    Thanks in advance.
Still a few bugs in the system...

    You're welcome.

    1. Not in my opinion (based on my experience as a DVD Shrink user and moderator of its official forums).

    2. I'm affraid there is no optimal compression setting (if you exclude "No Compression" ).
Some are happy to go as low as 60%, others say they can see compression artefacts at anything below 90% (even with deep analysis).
It depends on the quality/bitrate of the original DVD, the quality/size/type of the viewing equipment, whether you watch the movie or look for artefacts,...

    3. I don't actually know, as I did not compare them.
From what I have read CloneDVD is now on-par with DVD Shrink.
But I'd suggest you make your own opinion by conducting a test.
