    Hello!

I have just converted a AVI file to SVCD using TMPGEnc Plus. The file I used I had already forced subtitles in using Virtual Dub and Text Sub. But when I converted the file I discovered that there where double instances of the subtitles. It is like I did all the work in VD for nothing. It seems like TMPGEnc was able to add the subs automatically without me having to do anything. How is this so?

I noticed that a green arrow was in my messenges field during convertion and when I moved my mouse cursor over it said it was VoB Sub direct or something like that. Does Vob Sub and TMPGEnc PLUS cooperate and do the work Automatically. Dont I have to force the subtiltes in the future using Virtual Dub when converting if I have Vob Sub?. If so that is really great.

What bothered me most though was that for some reason the audio just dissapeared in the outputed mpg file. The video was around 57 mins but after 50 mins the Audio just dissapeared. Why is this and how is it fixed?

The Audio work just fine in the original AVI file I used as a source. I used a separate Audiostream for the Audio a Wav file that I downsampled to 44.1KHz in Goldwave. It seems that I have done it right but still the Audio just dissapeared in the converted file. Weird!.
    Sincerely Joakim Agren!

I'll help a fellow swede Double subs are probably because you:
    A) Add them with VirtualDub.
    B) When TPMGEnc is fed the AVI, DirectVobSub filter kicks in, and overlays the subs once more, giving you the subs twice. Similar effect has happened to me when viewing AVI on computer when AVI player adds subs, and DirectVobsub adds them too.
Disable DirectVobSub or don't add subs before encoding.
About the audio prob - Errors in the AVI? Errors in the WAV?
When adding subs, I usually add them like you, but frame serve to TMPGEnc. Sounds like you add subs and encode to AVI with subs, then encode new AVI with TMPGEnc?
    HTH!

    Hello!

I solved the subproblem by using the original AVI and not using Virtual Dub and just let Vob Sub do the job automatically!. Much more practical! Vob Sub sure is a powerfull app!. The Audio issue got solved as well by reencoding it in Gold Wave from the original AVI.

Now I have converted it succesfully to SVCD and burnt it using Nero 12X speed. But I have a couple of other problems instead. The file was encoded in a 2 pass VBR,1660 Kbit/sec average and minimum 300Kbit/s and maximum 2553Kbit/s.(other settings was no telecine, no noise reduction, and since the original Avi had 23.97 fps i selected the NTSC Movie option) But when I play it in my DVD player the picture is from time to time during movement a bit choppy and jerky and that was not so in the original AVI. Why is this and can it be solved?

Maybe a setting was wrong somewhere in TMPEnc?

    What should I try?
    Sincerely Joakim Agren!

Most PAL (that's us!) equipment should play NTSC material fine (even if my Centrum DVD player doesn't), so you should use the NTSC SVCD template in TMPGEnc when dealing with NTSC material. And I think you should use telecine.
I have to do a NTSC to PAL conversion on the AVI before encoding by:
    1) Extracting audio track to wav. (VirtualDub + decoder)
    2) Chande FPS of AVI from 23.976 to 25, making it play slightly faster.
    3) Make audio correspondingly shorter (to match shorter video time) with WavWorks.
    4) If I use time stamped subs, change timing in subs to fit 25 fps
As you can understand, I'm rather picky at what 23.976 fps AVI I encode to DVD/SVCD...
