  1. After the conversion (very long) from DivX to a DVD, I find that playing back the DVD structure from the HD using the Apple DVD Player stutters - by that I mean it playes back a few seconds then skips a frame or two and so on..

Playing the smae DVD structure in VLC or the .img in MPlayer plays perfectly.

At first I thought that the DVD structure may be faulty so I burned the .img to a DVD-RW and tried that in my domestic DVD player which played the DVD without fault.

This 'stuttering' has only manifested itself on the last couple of releases of ffmpegX, so I was wondering whether there had been any option changes that might account for it.

How odd. I have seen the stuttering you mention, but not since 9b. Back then my workaround was to author in sizzle instead, using the ffmpegx m2v and mpa. This usually (90%) worked. But even more oddly it wasn't foolproof, sometimes even my sizzle ones stuttered. Sometimes re-encoding the whole thing made the stutter go away, go figure. I never did find out why, but I assumed I had mis-clicked somewhere.

  3. Changing authoring packages shouldn't make any difference as the 'stuttering' is present when playing the DVD directory structure from the HD before the DVD is authored.

Err, surely if you already have the DVD structure on your HD then you have already authored it. I think part of the confusion is misuse of the term 'authoring'

I have a similar problem but with Sizzle. I have converted 2 divx movie in .m2v + .ac3 (Fast DVD preset) then imported and authored with Sizzle. The DVD image created by sizzle is unreadable with the OSX DVD Player (sluttered) but readable with VLC. I f i burned this image on a DVD, i have the menus on an home Pionner player (lecteur de salon in french) but the video sluttered. The same DVD on a Philips player, the menus is skipped but the video played fine.

Are Sizzle & DVDSP the only programs to author DVD on OSX?

There's also CaptyDVD and iDVD. Also ffmpegX has basic authoring capabilities.

Which version of sizzle are you using? Hopefully it's not 0.5 ... (check out the sizzle webpage for more info).

    I have iDVD but i think it cannot use mpeg2 & AC3 ?!?

I have use 0.5 first (with menus) and then back to version 0.1
Correct me if what i say is wrong but with Sizzle 0.1, it's not possible to have menus with images, background, audio...

    Anyway thanks for your reply,
