Well, for about 50% the DVD-Rs work fine on my DVD player but it skips a lot (sound and video) for the other 50%. My friend gave me the DVD-R and it seems very new (no scratches), but I think its the quality of the disc. It's DVD-R 4X speed 4.7 GB General. I think its a no-name brand because the only logo I see is DVD Video. Please, can anyone help me out, how can I fix this problem. (Note: I've tried 2 discs (the exact same type) already, but the same problem exists.)

You could try ripping the disc to your HD with DVD Decrypter (if it will) and then burn it to another brand of DVD-R . See if that works.

Find out the media code. You can use DVDInfoPro; it's free. Just cause it is not branded does not mean you cannot find out the disc manufacturer. You can then find out if the given DVD-R is compatible with your drive or player. If it isn't, ask your friend to bootleg for you with compatible discs. If it is stated as compatible, your friend might not be burning it well.

DVDInfopro is too complicated. I dont have a burner and I do not know how it works. I highly doubt that my friend knows the advanced specifics also. I'll ask him to burn to another disc. Will burning this disc to another brand (that worked on my DVD before), create a flawless disc or will it "copy" the same defects?
