  1. OK, though I checked out the "DVD Player Compatibility List", and found some users posted they couldn't play XVCDs on their Phillips 951 standalone DVD Player, I just burned one with the "TigerWolfs Audio XVCD Template" (TMPGEnc) and it worked perfect (CDr: Tophouse - 80 minutes). I have seen I can make menues on an XVCD, and seen that each "song" is encoded with a black background (what makes the mpeg file). I was wondering if it is possible , in some way, to create a black image for the background with only the title of the song and singer, and that that image will show over the whole song... Is this possible to make? These DVD Player do not play MP3 CDs, but it plays them perfectly this way!!!!!!!!!!!! So excited!!!!!!! Help please

    dead easy to do.

generate a file in paint, paint shop, whatever, of the title and artist. nothing fancy, it won't look pretty. when you encode the audio in the template, simply select the pic in the video box. tada!

  3. You do realise of course, you can fit 6+ hours of audio into a standard, fully compliant VCD.

Not only that, you can have high resolution, full screen still images on the same disc as well (e.g., title screen, lyrics, just a pretty picture, etc.)

This disc should work in most DVD players that are "VCD Compatible".

mikk described how it can be done here: http://www.geocities.com/mikk999/StillsWithAudio.htm

It involves creating audio only segment items.

Well, in a fashion. What I meant was that you can get a SINGLE static screen for the duration of the song. You can have a different screen for each song.

I didn't mean moving lyrics like karaoke. Rather just single page of all the lyrics (if possible). Hope I didn't confuse you!

  6. Here you got another question, just in case you know the answer: can I create one MAIN menu, and then other ones depending on the main menu? OK, right now I want to make a XVCDAudio of my Mariah Carey colecction (her regular albums). So I would do a MAIN menu where I could see a picture of hers, hopefully background music, and the names of all of her albums. Then I would like to choose one of the albums, and enter THAT album menu, and then select the song I want to hear. The same for the other albums. And hopefully create a background image for each song, containing data about it (let's say its lyrics). Is it possible? Or I'm just daydreaming?
    Thanks for your help

Definitely possible. Indeed, it's a good project to do.

However, it won't be that simple. Also, stop thinking of the XVCD template. XVCD = non-standard VCD = won't play in some (many) players.

As I stated before, what you want to do is completely within the realm of a fully compliant VCD so there is no need to create an XVCD.

The link I provided before details how an audio file (in MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio) can be used with a high resolution still.

I've written a guide series on how to author VCDs with VCDImager, which would allow you to create what you want. Mind you, there is probably a steep learning curve in front of you for what you want to do...

What's there to be happy about? When listening to the CD you clearly notice that the audio quality is kinda bad. All higher frequenzies are cut.. it's not like it's mp3. Not even mp2 files with bitrates up to 192 gives sufficient quality.. :/

  10. What's so great about it?
OK, first of all my standalone DVD player do not support regular MP3s CDs. Second, I don't want to do an mp3s CD to be played in my standalone DVD player to put music at a disco, just want to have entire collections copied on mp3 format to eb able to listen to them whenever I want, without having to swap CDs. Third, I already own an over 1500 original CDs collection, so I already have all of those songs with perfect quality. Just want to try this.
OK, now I have some other questions:

1 - On TMPGEnc, is there any way to select several files at once to encode? I tried the "batch encode", but have to add one file at a time, and then run it. It is very annoying. Can I make the "file list" with any other tool?
2 - As far as I have seen, I'm only able to put up to 99 mp3s on one single VCD (or XVCD). Can this be fixed? Mariah's complete collection of Albums would give me 101 files, (128 kb, which is ok for me: 394 mb).
3 - Virtualis, you said I forget about the XVCD in order to achieve what I want, but would the VCD format allow me to put so many files in one single 80 m. CDr?
4 - I made some tests already, and lyrics while playing are out of the project now. I can hardly even see those lyrics. Any solution to this?
5 - After reading the GNU VCDImager I realize I know nothing, as I truly do not understand (though I read it several times now) how to achieve what I want. Isn't there just a template for TMPGEnc to create mpegs out of mp3 files, that will allow me to create the "mp3s" cd on compliant VCD format? And if so, how many mp3s do you think I'll be able to record on it (let's say 4 megas each original file, encoding at 128 kb).
OK, those are all the questions that came to mind Any help will be more than welcome
    Thanks so much

I'm not entirely sure what you are getting at...

MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio definitely near perfect (depending on your encoder of course) at a bitrate of 224 kbit/s (which is what VCDs use).

At a bitrate of 224 kbit/s, you can fit about 6 hours of audio on a VCD if you use them as audio only segment items.

I doubt very much that you or anyone else could pick the original audio vs. the MP2 encoded one at 224 kbit/s on a true A-B double blinded test most of the time.

totally agree! i USED TO think there was a very distinct, discernible difference, but not anymore.

it's like standing right in front of your big screen TV, watching a newly created high-bitrate XVCD and looking out for ANY signs of macro blocking - it's just not worth the aggravation...

  14. This is very interesting, but isn't there a limit of 99 songs?

  15. 98 I've been said...
Anyway, I just downloaded WINONCD from Morpheus (85986 KB - rar compressed file), and tried to install it but when it was installing it it said that the "system administrator" do not allow to install it.... What is that? Can someone help me?
Anyway, will this program allow me to make mp3s CDs under VCD format to be played on my standalone DVD player (which btw do not support mp3).
    Thanks for any help

If you use the XVCD method, there is a limit of 98 songs (98 AV track limit on a VCD due to 99 track limit on a CD).

If you create your "audio VCD" with audio only segment items, your only restraint is disc capacity (you can have up to 1980 segment items and disc capacity issues will kick in for audio files long before you reach this limit).
