How can I import a standard DVD (a series of *.VOB files in 1GB chunks) into Adobe Premiere Pro. I have tried using DVD Decrypter to rip a single .VOB and then renaming it to .mpg but Premiere freezes on import...Please HELP!

i dont think premiere can input dvd files. you have to convert them to and avi or mpg, preferrably avi, first. unless there is a frameserve program out there.

Okay, I'll convert to avi, but what compression algorithm should I use to maintain the quality of the original .VOB?

"COMPRESSION ALGORITHM" What oraface did you pull that out of. You can use virtualdub-mpg to convert .vobs to avis. I have not been able to find any other program that can do this.

Premiere won't input .VOB files. It won't input most of the .mpg file either.

Ya' like that? Did I remind you of the "Architect" from the Matrix?!! Anyway, I've messed with Vdub and I don't doubt it will work but which compression thingy should I pick? I don't want to lower the quality of the video...

Your vobs have mpeg video. Adobe will not accept mpeg video. Therefore you have to convert it and therefore there will be some quality loss. I searched around a lot for a program to convert these mpg video files to create an avi and the only program that will do that is virtualdub-mpg. Not the standard virtualdub but virtualdub-mpb. As to what codec virtual dub uses you can choose this but just using the one that virualdub picks works best for me.

premiere WILL accept mpg video. it just sucks at it. that, and the fact that mpg will compress the video even more resulting in more quality loss, is why you should convert to avi.
