You can use AutoGK if you're a beginner, this is an outstanding package. If you're up to more complicated settings, Gordian Knot (AutoGK's big brother) is my personal favourite.
If you're looking for something really simple then Dr. DivX is your man.
If you click the red "AutoGK" in the first line (or Dr. DivX) and look below the tool description, all the relevant guides are listed for you. Please use the guides, and if you get stuck have a search of the forums. Ten minutes can yield a lot of information!
If you need any further assistance if guides/searching fails, just post up and I'm sure you'll be sorted out.

This is the only trouble with asking a "What's best?" question - everyone has their own personal favourites. You don't really get many "good" answers.
As jarvis1781 says, Vidomi is another good one, comparable to AutoGK. As for DVD2AVI, I've never actually used it for converting to AVI but the name implies that it does the job. As jimmalenko says, it's probably for the more advanced user.

should it not be in divx? whats wrong? -
you do have to name the output file.. it will be in the parent directory (go up one). A tad more looking about would have found it
And the log file details all stepsCorned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons. -
joeyjoejnr,
You haven't read the guide for AutoGK.
http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/autogk.html
Step 4 - you can't miss it.
Please read the guide, follow it and post back with specific questions if you have difficulty. Using the guide will save you time anyway!
