  1. hi peeps, i have a serious problem, that needs fixing, and i am compleetly
    stuck with.
i just got a new program that i got e-mailed, and tried to install, but it seems that i cant open the installer on my pc.
thinking that the program was messed up, i decided to try and open it on my other pc, with much success, but it wont open on the pc that i need it on. oviosly its not the program, but my pc.
now what gets me is that a few days ago, i had the demo version of this program runnin on this pc, untill it expired, i then uninstalled the demo after expiration, but now that i try to install the demo to see if it will install, it does not.
why is this happenig, and how do i fix this

    thanks!!!

The Demo has obviously left something on your computer that tells the program it's been installed before, so you need to find that file and delete it. GOOD LUCK.

This is not something that I usually recommend, because if you don't know what you are doing, you can really mess up your computer, but you could use regedit to delete the program from your registry. Use the find command to look for that program, and delete all traces of it. Once that is gone, then you can reinstall and the problem should be solved.

  6. A program like Mcafee Quickclean may be able to find the files that have been left behind. With most programs not all the files relating to the program are in the set directory.

    most likely.
If you have never heard of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or know what it is, buy the program.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Done a web search ?

Chances are, you are not the only person in the world that has experienced the problem.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I agree. While it may be extreme, it will fix the problem for sure instead of wasting time trying other things.

    @bodybuilders1:
As I said, if you don't know what that is, you won't be able to fix the problem. It is a section in your registry where keys such as the one restricting you from installing the software sit. If you don't know what it is then you have no hope of removing the key - therefore a format is probably best.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Yes, but not always. Sometimes they hide them in other places, too.

GoBack from Roxio will remove no matter where it hides. But it must be installed first.

  19. bodybuilders1,
If you dont know about the registry, dont fully understand the operating system, dont known how to recover from a serious mistake, havent backed up your system, then hacking around in your computer will be a whole new world of adventure for you.
What you will need is the Resource Kit for your version of Windows. A tutorial on the Registry. The patience of Job. A good reovery Diskette. Lots of time. Most of us have walked down this path, learned much, suffered much, but in the end purchased the thing.

Anybody knowing a way to identify how a timed demo program
knows that it has been installed before , should speak up.

The hard ones are in the CLSIDs I think , which are difficult to make sense of.

  26. Don't think I've ever taken that one for a drive before...

Dropcode (hidden timers) can be very diffucult to find. You're not limited to just the registry, or even a specific file.

I would be harassing the makers of the software by bombarding them with phone calls, faxes and emails until they take notice. It is a problem between them and you, not us. If you have legally purchased the software, they are obligated to provide you with some assistance or a refund. If they don't offer assistance, demand a refund. If this is any indication, their product is no good anyway.
    If in doubt, Google it.
