Has anyone had this problem? Someone I know has the DVDR80 and after fooling w/ it for an hour:

w/ coax TV input & coax cable output to the TV:
- w/ the unit off (e.g. passthrough), I get audio and sound no problem on the tv
- w/ the unit on, e.g. playing a dvd, I get video but no audio [and btw, I checked and tried all the different audio settings just to make sure it wasn't a configuration or menu setting problem]

w/ coax tv input & component video and unbalanced L/R audio out to an RF modulator, into the TV
- w/ the unit on, I get video and audio

To me, this means that when the unit is off, the coax in is passed through (as many others do), and when it's on, for some reason, it only sends video out on coax (RF modulated) but send audio and video out on component / RCA jacks

I asked Philips about this and they said 'replace the coax cable, it may be bad'. Well, if it works for passthrough, it's good. I've never really heard anything like their answer and they couldn't say how the unit is supposed to work.

Has anyone figured this out? Maybe I should tell this person their unit needs service (?) (or firmware upgrade although reading the posts, it shouldn't be done unless something's really broken).

I can work around it w/ some splitters, etc. but if anyone knows the deal, I'm kind of curious.

TIA....
