hi, i have an avi that is about 1400MB and am wanting to turn it into a vcd... i am wanting to keep it to a size that will fit onto no more than 2 cd's. usually when i make a vcd from an avi of about 700MB i end up with 2 500MB mpg's... so anyways, how can i do this? will i have to compress the avi itself? or can i reduce it during the encoding process etc.?
i use virtualdub to extract the audio. framerate to convert ntsc to pal. besweet to convert wav from ntsc to pal. TMPGEnc to encode. then nero to author and burn.
i always have to convert ntsc to pal because i cant play it on my setup.

The size of an avi has no relation to the size of an mpeg. The size of an any video file depends only on the running time and the bitrate (kbps) used to encode it. A VCD is encoded at 1150 Kbps for video and 224 for audio giving you about 10 MB per minute. You can raise or lower the bitrate as required to change the amount of minutes on a disk, this is known as an XVCD...quality will be reduced if it's lowered.
