I hope one of you DVD gurus out here can answer my question or point me in the general direction.
I have the Sony RDR-GX7 which seems to work flawlessly except for this one issue....
- I author a DVD-RW disk on my PC using Ulead DMF3DC. The disk plays correctly in the Sony and my Pioneer DV-414 DVD player.
- I decide that I don't need the content so I want to erase and reuse the disk.
- After I re-format or erase the disk, the Sony is unable to read, format or record on this disk.
- I believe the disk is still good because if I re-burn an DVD-Video image back to the disk, it will play correctly in my Pioneer DVD player and on the PC but not in the Sony.
When re-format the disk on the Sony and the format process is complete I get the message 'Disk is Dirty' 'Cant read the disk'.
It also occurs when I re-format the disk on the PC using Roxio Easy Media Creator, or DVDInfoPro.
I have done this to three disks, two Memorex and one TDK 2x disks. I have tried the following:
- Used Roxio to both quick and full erase.
- Used the Sony to format (first erase after DVD creation on the PC).
- Used DVDInfoPro to erase and format the disk.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can clear this disk so the Sony will be able to recoqnize and record on the disk? Please, any pointers would be helpful. I've posted here before but didn't get any response.
I've called Sony and they basically say 'Don't do that'.
Thanks a bunch.

This happens to one of my DVD+RW too. I can record it with my DVd+RW drive, but the Sony can't read it or format it

Sony is known for having these problem's Try formatting it on the PC then see if it works in the Sony.

Hi!
Thanks for replying.
The state the disks are in now the Sony will not even let me format. I have tried every option and utility I have on my PC but can't get the Sony to recognize the disk at all. I just get the 'Dirty Disk' C1300 code.
So, does anyone know of an utility or method to bring the disk back to a 'virgin' condition? Apparently there is some data somewhere on the disk that the Sony expects to see that was lost or overwritten.
Any clues, place to look?
Thanks,
John -
To reuse DVD+RW media on the Sony GX7 this is what I do:
1. Full erase in Nero 6.3 on PC
2. Format media in LiteOn 5001
3. Format in Sony GX7
Then it is usable in the Sony GX7.
If I skip step 2, Sony GX7 will not reformat the media.
Hope this helps. -
Does anyone have a spare LiteOn 5001 for me to format my DVD+RW?
Seriously, we need to find another way to allow the Sony to format DVD+RW
Luckily, I only have 1 DVD+RW (out of 4) that have this problem.
