  1. Has anyone tried to use subtitles with mpg1 video with DVDMaestro?

I've tried MaestroSBT and Subrip but I can only get subs to work with m2v tracks. Whenever it's m1v, the subs are all garbled and unreadable.

some setting somewhere maybe? or impossible?

    thanks,

  2. I have never used subtitles with m1v files. So my only guess is that it might simply be impossible to combine subtitles with mpeg1 video. This might be because, maybe, the DVD Player switches into a low resolution mode 352x288/240 when playing mpeg1 and is simply not able to overlay a picture with a much higher resolution. Another indicator for this is that subtitles are possible with SVCD but not with VCD. But it is only a guess. Does the subtitle also get somehow bigger when you see it on the screen?

  3. I don't think it's the fact that it's VCD format, I think VCD just couldn't support subpictures. You could be right about the different resolution though. The subs were ripped from a 720x480 and I never did a conversion anywhere. I'll look into that, if there's an option in one of the programs.

They weren't any bigger tho. You'd think it would be double the size right? And for some reason they were only garbled on preview. I burned it anyway thinking to forget about the subs, but when I played it on standalone I checked it out anyways. They were readable but the letters were dripping, like they were paint. Weird. It probably is a resolution thing. That's the only thing I can think of.
