I have an Apex 1200 which can play (s)vcd files copied onto a DVD. When I put the disc in, it shows folders and files, and I can just pick the file I want to play. To make it more "professional," is there an authoring program which will let me create a menu that will point to the mpeg files and start playing them? I'm aware of the numerous guides and programs which will make (s)vcd file DVD audio compliant and patch the header, but I'm asking something different. Pinnacle Studio 8 and Roxio DVD Builder both wants to reencode the MPEG files, which blows up their size. Any suggestion is appreciated.

I don't believe you can do what you are after. You either have a DVD or SVCD with their respective compliant menu structures and limitations, or you have a disk of files and your player shows you the file list. It's not like a PC where you can code up a front end menu. It's just not that flexible.

Why not patch them to make them DVD compliant and create a DVD menu for them ? I believe this is your only option.

I'm just lazy. I figure I already have the files on my HD, why spend time reworking them if there is another way. But sounds like there isn't, so I'll do it the right way.
