I have a mpg and its missing the first chunk of the file so the media player or editing programs don't see it as a mpg. It thier a way to tell it that it is mpeg like adding a 4cc code like in avis?

if this would be in a better topic please move it.

I never had much luck when the first part of a multi part MPG is missing. The first part sets up the parameters for the full MPG. I have taken a very similar MPG (Same resolution, size, audio, etc.) part one and added it in. Sometimes if it is close enough, you can recover the rest of the file. (Rename it exactly the same and see if it can add it in.) Good luck. There may be other methods, but the first part of the file is the most important part.

  4. If your using TMPGEnc, you could try disabling TMPGEnc's own MPEG decoder (VFAPI tab) and try the MPEG VFAPI plugin (m2v_vfp-0.4.7.zip).

Sometimes its more tolerant than TMPGEnc.

MPEG Repair might be able to fix it for you.

none of those seem to work. Is there a way to add part of a similar mpeg to the beging so a player know how to decode it

It might be time to cut your losses and delete the sucker. Maybe you can download it again.
