I own a Panasonic E100 standalone DVD recorder. It is possible to copy directly from hard disk to either DVD-RAM or DVD-R.
Why do I want to convert fromDVD-RAM to DVD-R?
Some recorded programs come in two languages. If I play back from hard disk or from DVD-RAM, I can switch between the two languages by selecting LR->L->R. This is NOT possible once the program is copied to DVD-R!
DVD-R is a much better value medium and more universal than DVD-RAM.
I easily manage to convert DVD-RAM to DVD-R on my PC (I copy the DVD_RTAV folder to the PC and use Nero 6 to author the DVD-R). However, I loose the second language.
The desired result would be to author a DVD-R on which the two languages can be selected by LR->L->R during playback. Is there a solution?[/b]

Solution found!
The two languages on the DVD-RAM are in 2-channel AC3-format.
In order to convert a video on such a DVD-RAM to an equivalent two-language DVD-R, one needs two things:
(a) A DVD authoring system capable of dealing with DVD-RAM (VR-Format video).
(b) A DVD authoring system capable of dealing with 2-channel AC3-format.
Nero 6 can handle DVD-RAM (VR-format video), but only single channel AC3-format!
Pegasys TMPGEnc DVD Author however can do both jobs. For this, you will need to buy TMPGEnc DVD Author; the 30-day trial version does not support AC-3, unfortunately.
